My sincere condolences to Tony, Susan and Mary’s extended family. I have many fond memories of visiting Mary and Maurice with my Mom Kitty as a child in the Square when we lived there in the 70’s. Mary and Maurice were always so welcoming and kind and the great treat to be given a mineral by Mary from the bar! Maurice was a Gentleman and Mary a Wonderful Woman and Mom who adored Tony. Rest in Peace Mary

Sincere Sympathy to Tony, Susan and extended family on the sad death of Mary, may she rest in peace.

The news that Mary had passed, evoked many pleasant memory's of both her time behind the counter and outside it. Mary and Maurice formed a great team. She bought into his auctioneering business, the pub, and of course they were the local reporters for The Corkman, for many years, Her infectious laugh and general good humour endeared her to all her customers, which made her hostelry a popular haunt for both local and visiting drinkers. A great community activist she engaged in all community activity as it came up whether it was pub talent or the Fáilte Festival quizzes, her team were always competitive and invariably successful. She didn't suffer fools lightly as was clearly demonstrated years ago when some bright spark in the council thought it prudent to erect a railing the length of the square, without any consultation with the businesses or resident's. Overnight reportedly under Mary's supervision the railing was demolished and the concrete blocks and planks were stacked neatly away. Needless to say the Council got the message!! While it was a great blow when Maurice passed back in 1988, she and Tony carried on very successfully for many years after, and has always been spoken of with great affection and respect since her retirement. Her passing means that she joins a long list of business people along the main street who have been called to the great Beyond
