My sincere condolences to Joe and all the Murtagh family on the passing of Mary. I am keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Mary was the main driving force behind Raheen Toastmasters—a charter member, our very first President, and someone who made an enormous impact on our club, on everyone who knew her, and on Toastmasters as a whole.

The Mary Murtagh Shield was established at Raheen Toastmasters’ 20th Anniversary, while Mary was still with us—so she knew her legacy would live on. And what a legacy it is. I was honoured to be President at the time, and it meant so much to see her recognised in that way.

Mary supported me immensely when I was starting out in the club. She was honest, knowledgeable, unafraid to speak her mind—and she always made me laugh. I learned so much from her.

I’m heartbroken at her loss, and I know many others in Toastmasters are too. She will be deeply missed.

Thank you, Mary, for everything. Your legacy will live on.

She will be sadly missed by you all; by your sons and daughters in law and grandchildren and by her brother Brendan, sisters Bernadette and Ann and their families. It was fortuitous for Ballinamore that many of the Brennan family moved there many years ago and went on to play a major part in the business, sporting, tourism and sporting life of the town, which is still carried on by the younger generation. The Murtagh branch of the Brennan family, frequent visitors to Ballinamore, played their part also. There are so many happy memories to cherish.
