Mary was a once off, a unique, beautiful soul, with a razor sharp intellect, evidenced in everything she wrote and said, a keen, insightful observer of life, a real gem of a person with an honesty and integrity that is hard to find. It was a privilege to have known her. I will miss our chats on the phone and our long lunches. May she rest in peace.

It was with sadness that we learned of the death of Mary. We were touched by her kindness her humility and her deep humanity. We will miss her,and extend our sympathy to her loving husband Pat, not forgetting Bobby, her loyal friend.

I am so sad to hear of Mary’s passing. My deepest condolences to Pat, Roger, Ciarán and Conor. Mary was a remarkable and very special woman. My lasting memories of her are throughout childhood when she supported the little shows we put on at the bottom of the cul-de-sac and cheered us on without fail. Mary continued this consistent encouragement throughout my life in many ways. For this, I feel extremely lucky and grateful. She took a genuine interest in people’s lives, passions and interests. She shared her love of writing generously and one of her many skills lay in her ability to observe and reflect. Rest easy Mary. Ní bheidh do leithéid arís ann.
