Sad to hear of Mary’s passing. She was a lovely person. She was humorous, kind and interesting. In fact, I had to check the spelling of the word “humorous” to make sure it wasn’t the American spelling. I think Mary would have got a kick out of that if I got to tell her! Such was her sense of humour/humor. May she rest peacefully. Kind soul.
Sincere sympathy to Mary's family & friends on her sad passing. May she rest in peace.
I am so sorry to hear of Mary's passing,she was a lovely lady,great actress and singer.Had a great catch up a few years ago in Midleton,she never forgot when she came from.R.I.P. Mary.
I am greatly saddened to hear of Mary's passing. Mary was a proudly independent spirit, a fan of art and poetry. She could elaborate the word joy to two syllables like it was a rallying cry - a cultural act of resistance.
Thank you Mary for the hours shared: for the mischief, the humour, the common sense and the kindness.
A chapter of a dream has ended' - I know you would like someone to say this, so I do. Fly joyously on! That old and broken frame was cramping your style and holding you down - you told me so yourself just a few days ago now.
If the love and fond memories we leave behind are what really count at the end of the day, then you should be enormously proud.
My sincere and deep sympathy to the family and friends of dear Mary; may she rest in peace. We worked together many times in Everyman and Cork Arts Theatre. She was a loyal cast member, who brought understanding and wit to every role. Go raibh leaba i measc na naomh aici.

Mary was an absolute gem, one of the sweetest, kindest and funniest persons I have had the pleasure to meet. I always looked forward to catching up with her at O Bheal on a Monday night. She will be missed greatly. RIP Mary
Mary was a remarkable, intelligent, talented, lively, independent and extremely kind person. The literary community in Cork will miss her so much. I will miss her very much too. I was always delighted to spend time with Mary. I was extremely fond of her. She was a one-off, and I mean that in the very best possible way. She participated, with panache and verve and humour and skill, in many Fiction at the Friary events and we were all thrilled that she was there. She was always her own inimitable self with her own unique work, her sense of humour, her joie de vivre, her camaraderie, her goodness. I would like to extend my sincere sympathy to her family and to all who knew her. She was greatly admired and will be greatly missed. R.I.P. dear Mary.
Very saddened to learn that Mary has left us. She had, somehow, an air of permanence — an unchanging soul at the heart of the city, always positive, always at the heart of whatever was going on, especially in the world of poetry, always engaged and friendly. She will be sadly missed.
Miss O’Connell had a way of floating around the classroom! Interesting and always a little eccentric. What was not to love! Rest in peace . Sincere condolences to her family and close friends. She won’t be forgotten , a wonderful teacher!

I will arise and go now, for always night and day
I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore;
While I stand on the roadway or on the pavements grey,
I hear it in the deep heart’s core.
RIP Mary.
