MARY O'GORMAN
(née KENNEDY)

We thought Mum was going to live for ever-as she was organising a trip to Medjugorje,she had renewed her driving licence & NCT-She was ready for road! Faith was important to Mum-when the Pope came in '79 she abandoned us and high-tailed it to Galway with her deck chair.She attended mass every day.As children we had to say the rosary every night & we had to negotiate to have TV on during the prayer,with sound down,so we could keep an eye on what JR was doing in Dallas.She was a member of the Legion of Mary,a Eucharist Minister & had visited Lourdes often.Her faith was a lived faith, in early years she knit Arran jumpers for charity, visited friends in Regina House &she took care of her own mother for years.She volunteered weekly in a Charity shop in Kilrush.Her commitment was recognised in her Clare Older Person of the Year Award2018. Her love of sport began in Coolmeen where her father and Uncle Mick won the Senior Football Championship in 1919&1922 &her brothers played 'county'.In 2023 she found herself supporting Harry at the All Ireland Minor Final.In her eighties she did the MiniMarathon having borrowed runners the day before.In her nineties she represented Clare in the Go for Life Games.She starred with her friend,Bridget Donnellan,in an RTE Series.Her most recent claim to fame was having lunch,with cousin Paul Mescal.We are so proud of our beautiful,get up&go mother.With hands on our heart,we can truly say that Mum has not left a loss but has give us an enduring legacy.

So very sorry to hear of Mary's passing. She was a favorite of the stateside Gorman family. My mother, Eleanor, always wanted to ensure her visits were special and would organize a family gathering to celebrate her arrival. I was so hoping to have one more visit with her in Ireland. She will be remembered for her kindness, warmth and good nature.
