We were so sad to hear of Mary’s passing. Our sincerest sympathy to the Dineens and all of Mary’s family.

Mary was nothing short of a legend in our family and was adored by all three generations. She was the heartbeat of Butlerstown with her warm welcome, kindness and wonderful chat, which will be dearly missed. Mary will always be a precious part of our childhood memories (along with the coke, crisps and pool!).

Thank you Mary! May your gentle soul rest in peace.

Mary was an extraordinary woman and we loved to pop into her pub in Butlerstown where she always welcomed us with a huge smile and plenty chat & craic. She will be sadly missed. Heartfelt condolences to her entire extended family and wide circle of friends and neighbours.

We were saddened to learn of the passing of Mary. She was a woman with many fine qualities - kindness and warmth, intelligence, humour and with a shrewd understanding of the world around her. She was never without wit and mischief.

My condolences to all Mary’s family and dearest friends. From my early childhood going to Marys with my Grandparents Paddy & Ellen Murphy have nothing but best Childhood memories. From playing pool and bottles Deasys and talent nights it was nothing but happiest of times. It will never be the same again but I do hope the legend of O Neil’s continues. Mary will always hold special place in my heart as she was kindest and modest person you could meet and was always welcoming. Rest in Peace Mary.

On the dark winter evenings with the fire lighting and on warm summer days after a swim in Dunworley, a visit to see Mary made the day. A packet of crisps, glass of miwaidi for the kids and a ‘fancy glass’ as Mary would call it for the gin; it was a place of perfection in her home. She was always so kind and always made us feel so welcome. We will miss you Mary- thank you. May you rest in peace.

Mary was very proud that O’Neill’s was frequently recognised in “Best Pub” guides. These often mentioned its eclectic colours, the blazing open fire, and its wonderful traditional character. But what many failed to capture was that O’Neill’s was truly unique because of Mary herself. She made everyone feel welcome and at home, whether it was offering a listening ear, a bit of friendly advice, or a mischievous joke. She had a razor-sharp wit, a great love of fun, and a deep fondness for Ireland’s traditions — from the rich strains of a ballad, to a game of cards, or a spontaneous sing-song — although never too late into the night! Mary delighted in seeing people enjoy themselves and made sure everyone left O’Neill’s with a warm heart.

Now it’s off to the pub in the sky for Mary, where she can pour a perfect pint of the black stuff, sing her collection of Ireland’s finest songs, and enjoy eternal happiness. Thank you, Mary, for all the good times.
