Dear Suzanne and Family, thinking of you all at this very sad fime, sending lots of love, and may Mary rest in peace.

Mary’s many friends in Unite were devastated to learn of her sudden passing. She remained a committed union activist to the end, and was always ready to offer advice, encouragement and solidarity to younger members in their own struggles.

As someone who remembered the particular difficulties faced by women in the workplace, the union movement and wider society, Mary also always championed younger women in the movement.

Mary had a great gift for straight talking, whether at a union meeting or in a social gathering. She always managed to get to the heart of the matter, with insight and gentle humour. We will miss her greatly.

On behalf of Unite, I want to extend our union’s condolences and solidarity to Mick, Suzanne, Louise and Ciarán, Mary’s beloved grandchildren and great-grandson, and all her family and friends.

I was very lucky to call her my friend, she was always there for me.
No matter what Mary was always at the end of the phone and all would be put to right when the call ended. I will miss her dry sense of humour and her kind and gentle heart.

I know she is in the arms of her Angels, her Mum, her sisters Margaret and Lilly and her baby daughter Emma.
