I am writing my deepest sympathy and condolences to the family , relatives and friends of the late Mary O’Rourke and to her sons Aengus and Fergal.

Mary was a good politician and former government minister in the past.
And she was a good speaker on radio and television interviews in the past also.

I will remember Mary and her family in my prayers .
May god bless all of Mary’s Family , relatives ,sons and friends.

May Mary Rest In Peace with her late husband Enda now and all her deceased family members and relatives.

In Fianna Fáil we all felt a sense of 'ownership' and pride in Mary - but she was your mam and the gap she leaves in your lives and the lives of your own families is, of course, inestimable. I do hope that the many great memories you have of your mam, together with the colossal footprint that she leaves behind her politically, will console you and the extended O'Rourke and Lenihan families well into the future. My abiding memory is of her intellect and wit. You have so much to be proud of. May she rest in peace.

I have very fond memories of your lovely mum Mary sharing her breakfast on two summers with our eldest son, then 4 and 5 years old in the Moorings, Portmagee, Co Kerry. Your mum would chat sea life and boats with Harry and then he would sit on her knee and share breakfast chatting away together.. beautiful memories of our holidays and your mum.

Mary was a warrior Queen in the best Irish tradition and fought unrelentingly for her beliefs and the causes she espoused.
She had a passion for many things but most of all life.
Her commitment to equality and opportunity in education and her support for multi-denominational education was inspiring and transformative and will not be forgotten.
Athlone and Ireland will miss her enthusiasm, energy and humour.

I had the privilege of crossing paths with Mary many times, both through our work on campus and in Athlone. She was truly a remarkable woman—a trailblazer with sharp wit, boundless encouragement, and a generous spirit. Mary always took the time to listen and connect, leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Her legacy speaks for itself. She broke down barriers in what was once a boys' club, paving the way for so many who followed. Her dedication to education, her tireless work for the betterment of Athlone and the wider Midlands, and her advocacy for our campus have left an indelible mark. We are forever grateful for the leadership and inspiration she provided, and we will always remember her as our champion.
