I and many others were fortunate to have worked with Mary in the SSRC in the university and for this I am forever grateful. May memories of her beautiful smile and positive energy bring comfort to all who knew her.

Please accept our condolences. My father Dessie Hynes talked about Mary Silke so often that I felt like I knew her, even though we never met. Whenever any of the family talked about Galway, Mary's name came up straight away. Dessie also passed away on December 2nd but in 2023, exactly two years to the day before Mary.

Deepest condolences to all who mourn Mary at this very sad time, particularly Clare. Clare was very kind to me when I experienced a bereavement and I hope she will have kindness shown to her at this heartbreaking time. She always spoke so highly of her mother and I know she was devoted to her. God grant Mary the peace of eternal life, where all sadness, sickness and pain is wiped away and replaced by happiness and peace, in the presence of the loving Father

I first met Mary, and Sean, as far back as the late 1960s. I was a student then, working over the summer with a local builder on their new home. I was later to reconnect with Sean in the auction rooms, and with Mary in UCG/NUIG, where we both worked for many years. And, we also knew each other as members of Galway Golf Club. Wherever and whenever, it was always a pleasure to be around Mary, whose perennial good humour, friendly nature and genuine interest in others made her a wonderful friend. My condolences to her own and the wider families.

I was very sad to hear of Mary’s death. We have had great doggy parties and trips to Renvyle in recent years. She was wonderful company!

Our deepest sympathy to all family of the late Mary. She was a lovely person, so interested in the well being of everybody. We became acquainted with her as members of a tidy town group in Bearna. One abiding legacy she has left to the community is the footpath from Knocknacarra to Furbo- she approached Mr Sharkey,then County Manager, one Sunday morning as he took his weekly walk from Salthill to Silver Strand or sometimes continued to Bearna village and asked him to consider a footpath as it would be safe and convenient for his walk !!!! to which he agreed. It might have come later but she stirred things on

Deepest sympathy on the the death of Mary Silke nee Hynes. I worked for my Uncle Patrick Browne during my school holidays. He died unexpectedly and Sean and Mary offered me a summer job. That was the start of a long and happy working relationship with the Silke Family. My deepest sympathy to the Silke and Hynes families.

Mary was a regular visitor to our practice - we always enjoyed a great old chat with her, and just when she was leaving, she used to reach into her bag and pull out a packet of biscuits for us to have on our tea-break! She was a friendly, generous lady who we will remember fondly.
