As a lecturer (rtd) at UL i had many dealings with Mary in her operation of the Co-operative placement scheme. What a marvelous woman unfailingly helpful and always cheerful. Will be sadly missed

Sincere condolences to Mary's family. I was fortunate to be mentored by Mary in UL for a number of years and her support and guidance had a very positive impact on me personally and professionally. Her vibrant and genuine personality will never be forgotten. May she rest in peace.

I was very sorry to hear about the passing of Mary Sweeney.

I first knew Mary back in our Ennis days.

Our paths crossed again when she was so innovative in UL in developing the Student Placement programme. She provided Nortel Networks with the very best of students for their co-op programme, many went on to have stellar careers.

Last time we met was when my wife and I met her while walking near Liscannor a few years ago. Interesting, funny and witty.

I am so glad I knew Mary Sweeney.

I was very sorry to hear of Mary’s passing. She was such a lovely lady, truly one of the dedicated pioneers in the development of UL and greatly admired by her many colleagues. My sincere condolences to Mary’s family, may she rest in peace.

I am very sad to hear of Mary's passing. A colleague in the Vocational school ; she was a born teacher - she even tried to teach me how to make a dress, and that was no mean feat ! Her enthusiasm was infectious, as was her lovely smile. She was loved by all who knew her. Deepest sympathy to her friends and family. May Mary rest in everlasting peace.

I had the pleasure of working for Mary at the University of Limerick and she had a profound impact on me. Mary was a wonderful lady, inspiring, intelligent, kind, witty, a truly remarkable person. Although I didn't see Mary all that often, and mainly at work events, my memory of her was always vivid and I was proud to call her a dear friend. We shared so many stories and had so many laughs that she became someone I always sought out whenever we were in the same town. She was kind, thoughtful and went out of her way to help people. I shall miss her and I know I won't be the only one to say that. Rest in peace Mary.

She was a big influence on my career in the 80’s when I attended NIHE Limerick and I’ll be forever indebted to her for the help and great advice. So very sorry to hear of Mary's passing. What a wonderful person gone all too soon. My deepest sympathies to Patsy, Irene, Fr. Donal, Michael, Noel and Ann on the loss of your dear sister. We were neighbours and family friends in Clonmel. In fact, in early October 1969, her father 'delivered' me and her to start our studies in UCD. On arriving in UL in 1984, I was delighted to find Mary there before me. She was admired by all for her great warm friendliness, optimism, high-energy and her outstanding, most-professional approach towards work. She was the pioneer in successfully building the cooperative education programme for UL's business school which is immensely successful in helping the careers of so many UL students. I'm praying for her, and of course for all her dear family who will greatly miss her. Ar dheis láimh Dé go raibh a anam dhilís.

My sincere sympathies to the Sweeney family on your sad loss of Mary. Growing up in Baron Park I remember many of you from your Shamrock Hill days. It’s been nice to come across Patsy in Killiney in more recent years and catch up a little on family news. Mary and I used to cross paths coming and going from school as teenagers. As many have described, she was always smiling and very engaging. I remember Mary warmly though, like many of our generation, we hadn’t met since those teenage years.
