Mary Virginia 'Penny' Hall

I’m so sorry to hear of lovely Penny’s passing. We used to sit beside each other during the GCS painting classes, and I will always remember her gentle nature and the fun conversations we shared. She was a truly wonderful lady.

May God grant her eternal rest. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to all of Penny’s family. I will remember Penny and her family in my prayers.

To David, Jean, Gary and all the extended family. Our deepest condolences on the passing of Penny. We will all remember her with great fondness. She was a kind, caring, fun, witty and compassionate lady. Lots of great memories of her over all these years. Our thoughts are with you all at his tough time.

To Jean and all of Penny’s family, deepest sympathies on her passing. A true lady.

Very much missing Penny this week. I was so grateful to be able to spend time with her the two weeks before she left us. It’s the small things I miss - like helping her with her makeup or making her tea just right (one stevia and too much milk). Growing up, she didn’t like a lot of physical affection which made my smothering of her with hugs and kisses, out of gleeful spite, all the more fun. During our summers in Glandore B&B, she found useful means of employment for us, like making the beds and setting the tables, which I really remember loving. Spending time with her and just listening to her stories was all I wanted to do - turns out so many others loved her stories just as much as I did. I was so moved to see all those who loved her attend her celebration of life yesterday, as I watched online. Hearing Raglan Road brought me to tears, as it reminded me that Penny asked me to play that for her on her iPad recently. She was a cool customer - always asked me what my friends were up to and what we liked to do for fun. She was funny and thoughtful till the end. She loved complimenting my thick eyebrows, long hair and patterned clothing. She loved how well my husband dressed and how kind he was to me. She wanted her family to be taken care of and be happy. I see different parts of her personality that live in all of her children, my brothers and two cousins. We were lucky to have her wit and warmth as long as we did. Love you, Penny. I’m so glad you’re at peace & with Malcolm.

Penny was a wonderful, kind and generous woman and I was a very lucky man indeed to have lived one of the most difficult years of my life under her roof. Her support, her wit, her indefatigable spirit were wonderfully supportive and I learned from her what to be completely unjudgemental means.
She has been one of the real treasures in my life.

Dave & Sarah, we are so sorry to hear of the passing of your beloved mother. I believe she was a tremendous woman. What a long and fruitful life, and a life lived well. May she rest in peace.

So many summers growing up spent at Pennys B&B in Greystones. So many great memories running around that house while Penny did her thing running her business. Never once taking out her stress on myself or siblings. She was always kind, patient and loving without being smothering (something I think we appreciated). She made the best Irish breakfasts, had the best dogs, and told it like it was which often led to hilarious moments that we will never forget. A legend amongst our friends who met her, and a loved member of her community. Penny, you will be so so missed. You absolute legend. RIP.
