Sincere Condolence to Mary's family, great friends and carers. It is with sadness we learned about the passing of our lovely neighbour Mary. May she Rest in Peace.
‘’A very kind and generous person’’
I write this as a tribute to Dr. Mary Barry Wall R.I.P.
My late wife Hilary, who had Mary as her teaching practice supervisor, thought the world of her. She used to say that the thing about Dr. Barry was that she ‘’had standards’’, she didn’t suffer fools gladly!
After Hilary had a stroke and was paralysed down the left hand side (for the last three years of her life) I remember meeting Mary in Wilton Shopping Centre. I was pushing Hilary in her wheel chair and Hilary asked Mary to pray for her because she felt that God might listen to her and provide a cure. This resulted in us being invited to afternoon tea on the Model Farm Road. Subsequently Hilary received many such kindnesses from Mary before she died in 1996.
To sum up, Dr. Mary Barry Wall was shy and had strongly held beliefs concerning both her faith and her life. Underneath, she cared deeply about others. She spent her private life looking after the sick, the infirm and the old. She was a very kind and generous person who ‘’made a difference’’ and I am sure that she is now up in heaven talking to Hilary no doubt about me and “how dare he say those things”!

It was with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Mary Wall. I had the good fortune to have her as one of my lecturers in UCC. She was a great teacher with a wonderful presence in the lecture theatre. Her lectures were always prepared in meticulous detail and she had a wonderful gift in keeping the attention of her students. Mary taught me French in St. Al's and later became my supervisor in the Education Department in UCC. She was an excellent teacher, mentor and role model, and I will always be grateful for her guidance, professionalism and concern for her students. I met her later in her capacity as president of the Irish Federation of University Women, a body which she served well over many years. May she rest in the peace she truly deserves.
I heard with sadness of the passing of Mary, Miss Barry to us who attended her H. Dip lectures in a much different UCC. You always admire and remember lecturers who inspire and Mary certainly was one of them. Ar dheis De go raibh a h-anam Uasal .
Very sorry to hear of Mary's death. I knew her in my earlier years on the staff of UCC and recognised her then as somebody special. May her gentle soul rest in peace.
My sincere condolences on the death of Mary Wall. She was a warm and supportive academic colleague in the Education Department of University College Cork. She was a true scholar and highly respected by her fellow academics nationally and internationally. She was an inspiring teacher, utterly dedicated to the wellbeing of her students. Her commitment to the teaching profession and to student teachers was legendary and exemplified by her very generous financial donation to the School of Education in recent years to support students taking the Professional Masters in Education. Mary will be fondly remembered by her colleagues and her many students over the years. May she rest in Peace.
Sincere condolences to the family, friends and carers of Mary.

Deepest sympathy to the extended Wall and Barry Families on the death of Mary. RIP.
I was very sorry to hear of the death of Mary Wall, an insightful and fair-minded colleague and a strong moral presence in the College where she worked for many years. Her strong support for scholarship and hard work ably maintained the high standard set for the Department by previous Heads. She had a notable sense of humour and managed meetings with a deftness I very much admired. On one critical occasion, she had to defend the very existence of an Education Department at a time of political turmoil. Her staunchness and resolve impressed many of us who depended on her. In recent years she fell into the shadows but her legacy to Cork and to UCC is a constant reminder of her love of the College and the many students she taught. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.
So very sad to hear the loss of beautiful kind lady Dr.Mary Barry Wall who i had the pleasure of caring for over the past few years, she will be sadly missed by all,may she rest in peace
My deepest sympathies to all of Mary's extended family, and close circle of friends/carers. The care, love and support you have all shown to her in her final days is unmatched, and a testament to how caring, kind and considerate Mary was. My thoughts are with you all at this difficult time. May she rest in peace
