Deepest sympathy to all the Farrelly family.I remember Matt from St Mel’s College. He was my senior but was always courteous and an absolute gent. I met him on occasions in Dublin and was always proud of Longford connections. I saw him in the Concert Hall only a few months ago and intended to speak to him but lost in the crowd on the way out. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Shock and saddness to hear of Matt's passing. Matt was one of the brains in our class of 74 in St. Mels. He had a flair for languages and so was the go to man to sort out your homework in Latin and French as well as Irish and English. He was the driving force behind our 40th anniversary in 2014 and was looking forward to a 50th next year. I met him at a concert starring Rebecca Storm in Goffs near Naas many moons ago with his big smile and of course wearing a cravat. He has gone too soon to join the heavenly choirs. Rest easy Matt. Condolences to the Farrelly family on the passing of Matt. He brought much happiness over the last four decades and left us many great memories to treasure. We fondly remember the gatherings, the fun, the laughter, hearing the yarns Matt would spin and in later years playing cards together. He will be missed. RIP Matt.

My sincere sympathy to Fintan and the Farrelly family on the sad passing of Matt. I met Matt on a couple of occasions and he was a really lovely person - a real gentleman! May he Rest In Peace.

I offer my deepest sympathy to Mary, Ursula, Pat, Fintan, Catherine, Michael and extended family on the loss of Matt. He was simply a wonderful character: funny, good humoured, sociable and great company but also kind, honourable and principled. I have great memories of  the trips with the Coro Italiano to Italy in the late 1980s and the 1990s during which Matt sang beautifully in the tenor line and was a great team player but was  also at the centre of all the fun and antics outside of the choir performances. We laughed so much during those trips, thanks largely to him. I remember too the lively choir nights out in restaurants in Dublin where Matt would readily sing solos if requested, always to great applause. Matt loved a good chinwag about politics and every other subject under the sun,  and down through the years we had regular animated discussions, punctuated by his hilarious banter, over brunches and dinners. In recent years  there were also the hugely enjoyable  group meet-ups in Verona to attend operas, all thanks to Matt. I will remember him in particular for his affability and charm: he brightened up the day for friends and strangers alike in choir practices, concert venues, cafes and restaurants. He has gone far too soon.  Like all in his huge circle of friends I will miss him dreadfully and will never forget him.  RIP, dear Matt.

I will miss Matt very much. Only came to know him in past 18 months, approx. He knew so much about the music, it seemed to me. A larger than life character, he will be sorely missed in the audience at NCH I believe. A man of very discerning musical taste. A privilege to know him. I last met him in St Michael's Church, Dún Laoghaire, at the organ recital, 2nd July.

Saddened to hear Of Matt’s death. A great gentleman and enthusiastic lover of good music. He will be much missed by his friends who enjoyed his company at various concerts at the National Concert Hall over the years.

I met Matt at an Italian Language School in Montepulciano in 1999. How lucky I was! His Love for Music and the Opera was so energetic and infectious! He got me into it. I am grateful for all the shared Occasions - Musical Events, Italy, Visits to Germany, long Talks. The Humor and the Joy he spread. His uplifting Attitude. I will miss him so much! Gone too early!
But - Heaven will be more colourful and Fun with him.
