Mary, Suzanne & Sharon - there are few words of comfort that can be offered at this difficult time, so just sharing my deepest sympathies.

One of my earliest childhood memories is Matt, so generously, driving my mother, siblings & I to my grand dad's funeral in Limerick back in 1988. I'm not sure if it was his generosity, or his Ford Sierra that impressed me most as a young boy, but as an adult I truly appreciate his generous nature. May Matt Rest in Peace.

Dear Mary, Suzanne and Sharon, I am so sorry for your loss. I have many lovely memories of Matt. He was always such a kind and willing neighbour, helping our family out on more than one occasion. I remember the pipe and his soft accent, his vast knowledge and many interests. He took beautiful photos of my eldest son when he was very young and I think of Matt when I look at them. Our deepest sympathy to Mary, Suzanne and Sharon on Matt’s passing.

We were very lucky the day Matt and Mary moved into Pinewood Lawn many years ago. Matt has has been the kindest of neighbours, the most loyal of friends and part of our family for over 40 years.

He was our Christmas mornings and our Tuesday afternoons, ever ready with a coffee and an interesting story, often about his career as an engineer - he brought the far corners of the world to Pinewood Lawn when I was growing up and tales of creative inventions.

He was our go-to person for just about anything, always so generous with his time and expertise; ‘Why don’t we run over and ask Matt?’ has been a common refrain in our house for over 40 years, from IT troubleshooting and emergency printing 20 years ago in my first job, to decoding the heating system and even taking photos at my wedding.

He was larger than life and such a character, always full of fun - ‘I’m only teasing’. The children have such fond memories of him - still joking with Aoife about the time she accidentally broke his glasses as a toddler.

He was a wonderful neighbour, a kind and generous friend and our surrogate uncle. We all adored Matt and will miss him dearly. Pinewood Lawn won’t be the same without him. Ar dheis lamh De go raibh a anam dilis.
