To Mark and all the family, On behalf of the Camogie Association I wish to offer our condolences on the passing of your dad Mathew RIP.

My deepest sympathies to Mark and Paul on the death of your dear father, Matt. I also remember your late brother, Kevin at this sad time.

So saddened to hear that Matt has passed away . Such a gentle and reserved and handsome gentleman . Little did I know when , as an 11 year old boy in Corofin County Clare , listening to the broadcast of the Tipp. V Dublin All Ireland Final of 1961 , that I would , one day , meet the Captain of the Tipperary team that day , Matt Hassett of Toomevara . We met at the Courthose , Ennis , one day as he and I , representing our respective clients , not the same case , met in the foyer . I recognised him from the photo in the Irish Independent the following day , after that game holding aloft in the Hogan Stand the McCarthy Cup while at the same time reading the report of John D Hickey in the Irish Independent (Hickey was won’t to be unnecessarily critical of hurlers and the way they performed in games ) It was such a joy to meet Matt that day in Ennis - a humble man who loved hurling for certain and had the common touch ! My sincerest sympathy to his sons and families May his gentle soul rest in peace
