Matthew (Matt) Chandler

Dear Flo, Melanie, Linda, Alan, Karl and Christine, it was with great sadness that I heard of Matts passing. I have such great memories of Matt and all he did for me and my family, he had a wonderful life and lived it to the full, he was so proud of his family and you all meant so much to him.

Matt, Rest in peace dear friend you will always be in my memories.

To the entire family, on behalf of Dublin Archers I wish to offer our condolences on the sad passing of Matt. We were fortunate to have known him for the past few years and to have sampled a little bit of his company. He was always a positive smiling member of the club, with a stubborn refusal to accept any limitations due to his age or physical condition. I personally enjoyed the chat on several occasions and I was always left in awe at all the things he had done in his life. I hope that all the good memories you have of Matt will be a comfort to the entire family in the coming weeks and months. Dublin Archers will always remember him fondly. May he rest in peace.

I am so proud to be your granddaughter. I see things that remind me of you everywhere. Your creativity, kindness and sense of humour in all your children. Our passion for the sea and the pulley block lamp you made for me. I will never forget how you tricked me into thinking eating pepper would put hair on my chest. The time we took you to Yorkdale mall and you insisted we take your picture in front of Victoria Secret. When you came to see my house for the first time and shot Casey’s crossbow. We may have lived a sea apart but that did not mean a thing. You have left me with so many amazing memories. Sailing in Greece, our times at the cottage and going out on your boat in Ireland. I always loved listening to your stories while walking through St. Anne’s park. I loved how proud you were to tell me you used to shoot the ducks with your friends in the pond! One of my favourite times was when you took me to Taragh hill to see the place I was named after. It was the rainiest and coldest day of my trip but was my favourite, just you and me. We walked around exploring the hill taking funny pictures and videos of each other. Next you drove us to the area you grew up and you showed me your childhood house and the bay you used to sail in. My only wish is I could hug you one last time and tell you how much I love you.

Matthew Chandler was a wonderful man.He was pleasent to talk to and very kind.I knew him as an aquaintance through his daughter Christene.I sailed with him occasionally and visited himself and Florrie from time to time.He will be sadly missed by a large community of friends.

It was an early morning when Matt and I went to the Ft.Lauderdale beach to watch the sunrise. While sitting on the sand Matt found a small piece of coral. We were both inspecting and admiring in. That year for Christmas Matt made Melanie a gorgeous necklace from this piece of coral. Matt certainly had the imagination and creation and therefore has made this beautiful necklace. I can’t believe you are gone and I love you so much. You’ve left me with so many memories that I will carry for the rest of my life. I will never forget when you brought me and Lauren to shoot bone arrows and when she tried to run in front of us and when you took me and my family out fishing and thought me how to fish in Lanzarote . I would do anything for you and granny to come out to balbriggan and go to the Milestone one last time and get Buffalo chicken wings and for you to tell me one of your stories.

I was often asked what my dad did for a living. It always made me pause – he did so many things. He was a car mechanic, a welder, a carpenter, a plumber, an electrician, a mason, an alarm surveyor, a hardware store owner, a facilities manager, a boat builder - and I know I have missed a few. What were the things he liked to do?
Sailing, hunting, archery, clay pigeon shooting, hang gliding, painting, RC airplane flying, and reading - again I know I missed a few. I can honestly say I do not know anyone who has lived a fuller life than my dad. He never stopped - always ready to help a friend out, never afraid to get into any job or adventure (some took a long time for my mom to forgive him). For me, my dad was a rock, a man who was larger than life, and always my biggest supporter. I think if you were to ask him his greatest success in life, he would say it was his family. I can only hope to be half the man and achieve half the things he did in his life.

Dear Flo and family, Dadaí just told me the very sad news of Matt’s passing. Matt was a big part of my life growing up and I have fabulous memories of all of us together at Red Rock and the Bull Wall.
Later when he would drop over to Dadaí at lunch time and I would be trying to cook us something while we laughed and joked over some devilment they had gotten into or were planning.
He will always be in my thoughts and prayers.
