I just heard that Matt passed away. I didn't know. He was an extremely nice gentleman and we often chatted at the races. He loved his racing and like his and my great friend the late Charlie Hegarty he loved the Curragh. My sincere sympathy to all his family and his brother Jack. May he RIP. I was fortunate to be a member of the group who used to meet up with Matt and Charlie in the Rutland Hotel at the Newmarket Classics.
Insightful analysis,great ‘’craic” and a deep love of horse racing.
However,what impressed me most was the way his eyes would light up when talking about his daughter ,Jennifer. Family was all important to him.

I was very saddened earlier this week to hear of Matt's passing, my dad and me with a couple of old friends would meet Matt and his old buddie Charlie at Newmarket some years ago and we would continue to do so for some years thereafter. The bond continued thankfully, forward on, Matt joined us in a photo of 'Miracles in May' winning at Nass, boy did he smile with us! and a photo he took (which I subsequently thanked him for (gladly) of me, Frank (my dad) and Jake (my son) at the Curragh at the Irish Derby 29th June 2019 after the 4 of us had lunch together, Finally, when Matt asked you ''how are you doing?', he really meant it...RIP Matt, and thanks for the memories....Peter Mc Nulty
