Matt ... the lovely man in the chippie down at Bray where we met, shared fish and chips at your home, I played the piano while Matt accompanied me on the accordion, the three of us singing songs together, the stories we shared, the good times over food, the laughs, the glint in his eye, the history you filled me in on, the proud dad who loved talking about his family ... I shall remember them all. Love to you all Joan xx

So very sad to hear of the passing of Matt. He was the first person that myself and my partner met when we came to Bray many years ago. Very sad to hear about Mr Thompson passing. My sincere and heartfelt condolences to Mrs Thompson and all the family.

I just returned back to North Carolina from Matt's funeral. Joan, Carolyn, Debbie, Neil, Matthew and Alan I was so honored to be asked to bring up the train at his service. I could never thank Matt and all the family for the many kindnesses given to me over the last almost 40 years. The most precious gift I will cherish will be the friendship. I learned how to embrace my Irish heritage by Matt's example. All the problems of the world could be solved by putting the kettle on and having a chat in the solarium of the Thompson home. I will fondly remember Matt and when I hear his name, I will proudly say I loved him and he was my friend. God be good to him.

I am so sorry to hear the sad news of the death of Matt.He was my Dad Sean's cousin..Dad still shares stories of Matt coming down to Landenstown to visit them when Dad was younger(Matt was about 10 years older than Dad).My granny was his Aunty.The one story we all remember that Matt always shared was...he came to stay one Summer and after a week or 2,she said to him'Matt I think you should go home your Mammy at some stage!!! One time he ended up getting a lift home on a barge from the Lock from Granny's right home to Mount Street!
An absolute gentleman,great fun and loved life..many happy memories.
