It was with deep regret that I learned of the sad passing of Mattie.
I wish to take this opportunity to offer my deepest condolences to his family and friends.
Mattie and I served in An Chéad Cath for many years.
I knew him well; he was a good soldier and served his unit and his country with great loyalty.
He never sought the limelight but worked quietly behind the scenes at whatever task he was assigned.
