He left an indelible mark on anyone who spent any time in his company. He will be missed, big-time.

Such a sad loss, Matthew will be missed by so many people that had the opportunity to be called his friend. A gentleman to the core, never suffered fools or foolish ‘army’ behaviour and was thankfully quick with a loud “c’mon outta that” if an officer was taking too long! A fabulous and ever reliable trumpet player, also a brilliant driving instructor to so many of us young fellas. Rest In Peace Matthew

Matt was a proud soldier, an accomplished musician and a dedicated member of Collins Squash Club over many decades. He played squash at senior level in Cork and Munster and was a true gentleman both on and off the court. He was a successful, prominent and popular administrator at the highest level of Cork Squash for many years. Sincere sympathy to all who mourn his passing. Collins Barracks and squash players, in particular, are indebted to his enormous talent, stalwart efforts in developing sport for all ranks and his zest for life.
May he have eternal rest.
