Your dad was my first cousin. I am the daughter of the late Christy and May O'Donoghue, Edenderry.

When I was a teenager I spent my summer holidays with your dad and mum, Eileen. They were new newly married at that time. I think the area of Dublin where they lived was Foxrock.

Your late mum was beautiful looking, her stunning black hair and most of all her singing voice. I can see them now as if it was just yesterday.

I remember Mat being completely in love with your mum. It has always stayed me. Their respect and kindness to each other. I can still seem them in the kitchen cooking. It is something I have thought about over the many years.

I sometimes stayed with Aunty Nancy, at her home in Blackrock, and Mat and Eileen would visit.

I am sad and sorry to hear of Mat's passing . My sympathaties to you all on the loss of your father and grandfather to your children.

Yours sincerely,

Gay O'Donoghue
