So sorry to hear of Mrs Kirwan's passing. Such a wonderful teacher that I was very fond of in Our Lady of Loreto. My deepest sympathies to all of her family. May she rest in peace.
Blanaid and your Sisters
I didn’t know your late Mother and I really wish I had. From reading the messages on RIP it is so clear your Mum was a wonderful person. She must have had a huge influence on her pupils with lots of fun and a massive presence. Sounds like she passed on her sense of fun and storey telling to her 3 daughters!
I am so sorry for your huge loss but Iv no doubt your memories of Maureen will bring smiles to your faces .
May Your darling Mum rest in peace.
I was so sad to hear of Maureen's passing and I would like to extend my sympathies to her immediate family and extended family .
I got to know Maureen just over 3 years ago at the Bridge Club in Stranorlar Co Donegal and we had another wonderful night of Bridge when she came to stay in Kee's Hotel in February. She promised to return soon again but it was not to be . She was such entertaining company and loved to talk about politics and current affairs, especially her granduncle Michael Collins : the iconic hero of the War of Independence. She was equally proud of her daughter Dervla and was so flattered that I had seen Dervla's photograph and read her interview a few weeks previously in the Sunday Times..
She loved to talk about her family and her teaching life , she enjoyed her Bridge.and had a deep affection for Donegal. Above all she just loved life and we will remember her with great fondness
May Maureen Rest in Peace.

Sincere sympathy to Maureen's family and friends. She was my best ever teacher. Back in the 60s in her wonderful French classes she transported us to Paris and the little side sidewalk cafes while we listened to Edith Piaf and Francoise Hardy. We had great fun while she prepared us for school concerts. I specially remember the Hula dancing to Hawain music.
May she rest in peace.
Dear Paula, Blanaid and Dervla our deepest sympathies on the sad loss of your lovely Mum Maureen. May she rest in peace.

My father Bill O'Neill was a good friend and colleague of your Dad Peter. For years we were regailed with hilarious stories of the office antics in the Guardian. Their friendship continued until the end of their days and when your Dad passed my father and Maureen kept in touch with regular phone calls. Dad always enjoyed the catch up and the laughter continued. We wish you strength now and in the days ahead, you are in our thoughts.

Mieke and Ank O'Neill

R.I.P. Mrs. Kirwan, my favourite teacher at Loreto all those years ago when she taught me French. I excelled at it due to her exceptional teaching. Thought of her today as I walked by the house before I heard of her passing. Condolences to her family
So very, very sad to learn of the passing of my French teacher, Mrs Kirwan. To me, she was the most sophisticated woman I had ever met and her stories of travelling in France enchanted me. I had the strange opportunity to meet Sacha Distel at a singing event while I was in her class and when I came back and told her she said ‘He was Brigitte Bardot’s lover, you know’.In a Catholic girls’ school in the 80’s one didn’t hear talk of lovers. She told us about falling off her bicycle into a ditch in France when she was a student because she had had wine at lunch and wasn’t accustomed. She made me see the possibilities the World could hold. How very strange that I should be helping my own daughter prepare for her Leaving Cert French today when I got this news. Because of Mrs Kirwan, I got an A in Honours French, which definitely helped me get my place at university and changed the course of my life. I have never forgotten her and I never will. Je vous remercie pour tout. Very sincere sympathy to her family. Jean X
