It is with sadness that I recently learned of the passing of my father’s cousin Maureen. We both carried on the family tradition of teaching, and I am glad that we were able to reconnect later in life. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis, Gerry, Stoke-on Trent, England
My sincere condolence to you Maureen and Patricia Chevens and to the extended O'Reilly family on the death of Miss O’Reilly. She was an inspirational teacher and person in the lives of her students. Fluent in many languages, I had the privilege of being in her English class for four years and her Latin class for 2 years in the Presentation Killarney in the 70s. She made English literature and poetry interesting and therefore easy, showing us the many layers of the written word revealing the themes and meanings beneath. She opened our minds. She never raised her voice and delivered what she said with remarkable eloquence and warmth. Her teaching left me with a lifelong love of the English language and an irritation for misspellings.
Miss O’Reilly wrote her messages for us, her Latin class, in our autograph books as we left the Pres in 1980 and she wrote each one in Latin.
“Siquid mea carmina possunt, nulla dies umquam memori vos eximet aevo”. (Vergil)
It translates as “If my poetry has power, no day will raze you from time’s memory’. I treasure this in her beautiful hand writing.
You will always be remembered Miss O’Reilly. Rest in peace.
So sorry to hear of Maureen’s passing.
She was the best teacher I ever had and instilled a love for reading that has never waned, may she rest in peace
Deepest sympathy to Maureen and Patricia Chevans & the extended O'Reilly family. Ms O'Reilly was an inspirational teacher, I still have her Macbeth notes from the early 1990s. Her last words to me at school were 'Quo Vadis?' I remember her for this phrase and so many other words of wisdom, as well as her love of nature and the mountains of Kerry. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.
Condolences to the family, friends, former colleagues of Miss O’Reilly. Wonderful inspiring kind teacher. Rest in heavenly peace.
It was with sadness that I learned of Miss O’Reilly’s passing. I was very fortunate to have been taught by her in The Presentation, where she was a fountain of knowledge and gave us a deep
understanding and appreciation of the English language. I still find myself correcting punctuation and grammar regularly and recall Miss O’Reilly in her black teaching robe. She will
be remembered with a combination of admiration and gratitude. My condolences to her extended family and of course to her lifelong and cherished friends Maureen and Paddy Chevens. Rest in peace Miss O’Reilly.
Deepest Sympathy to Maureen's family and relations and many friends on the sad loss of your beloved Maureen, May Maureen Rest in Peace.

Sincerely, Kathleen Kay Browne, retired Kerry County Librarian, Kerry County Council.
Sincere sympathy to Maureen’s family and extended family and to her dear friends Maureen and Patricia Chevens on the death of your beloved Maureen, R.I.P. Leaba i measc na naomh go raibh aici.
Deepest sympathies to Maureen's nieces and nephews, the extended O'Reilly family, and to her dear friends Maureen and Pat Chevens.

I was fortunate to have had Maureen as my English and Latin teacher during my years in St. Teresa's Secondary School. She was a wonderful teacher who encouraged and inspired her pupils and lauded their achievements. She recognised that I had a special interest in history and generously lent me some books from her personal collection.

Maureen had a calm presence and such a beautiful speaking voice which in later years we would all hear again when she read at mass in the Friary.

When as a couple we got to know her it was always a delight to meet her. She was rightly proud of her family's achievements and through her we got to know the American branch of the O'Reilly family. It was a pleasure to call to St Anne's Road as there was always a warm welcome.

Maureen leaves us with many fond memories. Ad dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis.
My condolences to Maureen and Pat Chevens and all Ms. O'Reilly's family and friends. She was a great lady and teacher - I remember her striding into the classroom with a Readers Digest in her hand and reading some snippets from it to us. (Delighted - as deviation from the curriculum!!) She made English so interesting. She will be sadly missed. May she Rest in Peace.
An inspirational person and teacher. One of the best.
Condolences to all the family.

Sending my sincerest condolences to Maureen's family and friends including Maureen & Patricia Chevens. I Knew Maureen throughout my years in Kerry Mountain Rescue Team. I always found her kind caring and interested in all we did. Rest in Peace Maureen.
My sincere condolences to all of Miss O'Reilly's dearest friends and family. Like many others, I was so fortunate to have her as a teacher for my entire time in the Pres. She taught me Italian for 3 years, followed by English to Leaving Cert. I remember once, asking her how many languages she spoke - she modestly answered ten! She was such an inspirational person, whose words of wisdom and encouragement lasted far beyond school. Mille grazie Miss O'Reilly- rest in peace.

My deepest sympathy to Maureen's family and her life long friends Maureen and Patricia. I was so blessed to have had Maureen as a teacher for five years, in the Mercy Convent Secondary School, St Teresa's, in the 1960s. I had her for English, Latin and French during those five years. She was a true educator drawing the best out of every student. May she now enjoy the reward of her good work.
Sincere condolences to Miss O’Reilly’s family, friends and former colleagues.

I was deeply saddened to hear of her passing. Miss O’Reilly was an inspiring teacher whose passion for literature and wonderful sense of humour left a lasting impression on all who knew her. It was through her that I developed a love for the works of Shakespeare and F. Scott Fitzgerald- she brought the texts to life and encouraged us to see the world differently.

I will always be grateful for the lessons she shared, both in and beyond the classroom.

May her gentle soul rest in peace.
I didnt attend the Mercy Secondary School, but over many years i heard all the kind stories about Maureen. She was a good colleague of my mum Maud, and Ruth and Bernadette always spoke about her English classes. She was lovely to meet, kind and friendly. Sincere condolences to all Maureen’s family and friends. She was an amazing teacher kind and generous. A truly wonderful person.
Maureen always exuded peace, joy and optimism, even through recent years when she had considerable physical suffering to bear. She was the very personification of mindfulness in the way she lived her life every day and that legacy of living in the moment is a powerful example for all of us.

Her gentle, cheerful and entertaining presence will be greatly missed by all who knew her, particularly her lifelong friends, Maureen and Pat Chevens, as well as her numerous relatives. Offering you our heartfelt sympathy on your profound loss.
Miss O'Reilly (I still couldn't call her Maureen!) was a wonderful teacher who instilled a love of writing, reading, and poetry in hundreds of pupils. Her focus on grammar has stood me well over many decades in the workforce. Her impact was significant on so many young lives. She will be missed.
The team is greatly saddened at the passing of our long-serving team member, Maureen O’Reilly. Maureen, along with her lifelong friend, Maureen Chevens, were known to many in Irish mountain rescue as The Two Maureens, and they both served the team through many decades of change. Through sometimes turbulent times, Maureen’s quiet authority and innate wisdom were a constant source of guidance to the team as it evolved. Her calm and dignified demeanour commanded the respect of all who knew her. In her roles as Base Officer, Callout Officer and team secretary, her consummate professionalism shone brightly in all her work. Her role as Callout Officer became obsolete with new technology, but she maintained her involvement with the team and was still technically a member, never having officially retired. She was honoured for her work in mountain rescue by Mountain Rescue Ireland and KMRT. She will be remembered for her positivity, kindness, good humour and a gentle, calming presence that endeared her to all. Ní bheidh a leithéid arís ann.

We extend sincere sympathy to her great friends, Maureen and Pat, to the O’Reilly family and to her many friends. May she rest in peace.
