I can still remember the welcome Maureen gave me when I moved into Arklow Street 21 years ago. She was fiercely proud of our little road, and encouraged us all to put out window boxes and hanging baskets, she would be thrilled with how it looks these days. Maureen would have rapped me on the knuckles if she had seen me standing on the street in my pyjamas as she made her final journey this morning. I would have been dressed in my finery (as she always did) had I known. My sincere condolences to all who loved her. I will remember her fondly. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis.

I am so glad that Maureen is finally re-united with her parents and her brother Patsy. She brightened our days when she came to Galway in all her finery so long ago. Then our dinners together with our cousins Madeleine and Mary, when she came to Boston. I have missed her.

Our deepest sympathy to Phyl, Nial and the extended Whelan family. I have great memories of meeting Maureen for our annual shopping trips to Dublin. The cruise we both enjoyed and her many visits to Galway. You will be missed Maureen. I hope you are now in the arms of your parents.

Maureen was my late Mam's childhood friend, bridesmaid and a great friend to the end. They enjoyed many (very) long lunches and chats over wine in Mitchells wine bar. She was a very generous godmother to me when I was a child and always so glamorous. May she rest in peace.
