Maureen Whelan
(née Horgan)

As a child Maureen was like a fairy god -mother to me and my siblings. When we went to her home we were always greeted with such a huge warm welcome and spoiled with home-baked cakes, tarts, scones and jams. Even as a child I could see that Maureen was a really special generous, caring person - not only was she rearing her own children on her own but she was running a busy business and yet she still gave her time and energy to her friends and to support other people in her community in her own quiet and generous way. I am really sad I wasn't able to attend the funeral and my deepest sympathies lie with Iris, Emma, Greg and with Maureen's extended family. May she rest in peace.

Deepest condolences to Iris, Greg, Emma and the extended Whelan and Horgan families on the death of Maureen. We knew Maureen as a kind, generous, caring, strong and determined woman with an adverturous spirit. Maureen was a great family friend and our lives were enriched by her friendship over many years. Maureen was exceptionally welcoming, obliging and considerate and was a most valued friend. We have wonderful memories of many times together including many memorable day trips. We hope that the memories you have and the company of family and friends will comfort you at this difficult time. May she rest in peace.

I was sincerely sorry Lester to hear of Maureen 's death. My very first job back in the early 60"s was collecting glasses and ashtrays in your Strand bar and the Horgan family could not have been kinder, i have extremely fond memories of Maureen and yourself of course . Maureen was very definitely a lady , may she rest in peace .
