Our deepest sympathies to all the Phelan family on Maurice's passing. He was a valued member of the Parish Pastoral Council for many years and it was such a pleasure to volunteer with him. I loved his hint of a smile and the mischievous glint in his eye many a time when discussions were under way. A quiet man at the meetings which made his input even stronger when he shared his thoughts and views. Maurice was always such a gentleman at all times, may his gentle soul rest in peace. We'll keep Maurice and all of you in our thoughts and prayers.

From the Castle Field to 10 in-a-row could never have been but a vision of epic proportions when our good friend and colleague Maurice Phelan became the first and youngest Club Treasurer of the then newly formed Ballygunner Hurling Club back in February 1954. Although Maurice's passing was somewhat sudden and untimely, his stellar playing career and administrative rolls within the Club makes him a true Ballygunner legend and one of life's gentlemen. While no words of mine can lessen the loss of a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, cherish the wonderful memories that you have of Maurice as I know these will help you in the days, months and years ahead. You can be proud of his life and the legacy he has left us all to share. God rest him and may his soul rest in peace.
