My sincere condolences to Louise, Darren and all the McCreary family on the passing of Maxi. He was a most friendly and sincere person and a master business man and I enjoyed my calls to his premises over many years. May his soul rest in peace.
So Sorry to hear of the sad passing of Maxi.
Our sincere condolences to all the family.
May he rest in peace.
Since school days in Lifford the McCreary's and Patterson's have been very close friends and also through Membership of Donoghmore Church.
This was heightened for us when our two sons, Simon and Allan, travelled with us from Dublin to "The Kiltown" for holidays each year to be running wild on "The Farm" at Christmas, Easter and especially each Summer. Almost from birth until they were in their mid to late teens we travelled to East Donegal! The Crossroads was a spot we could always go to to meet Maxi and Louise as well as Darren, Brian and Maxime.
Inevitably these family visits declined in frequency and Christmas Cards became the method of the annual update and maybe a marriage or two in Kee's Hotel!
However, when we did meet, starting all those decades ago, family memories were always recalled with great enjoyment.
Now, we head into the time when one by one our friendships are no longer "first hand" and more common are the births of grandchildren and the sad "passing" of loved ones!
However, we can always recall, vaguely perhaps, many happy "growing-up years" in the 50's and 60's. On to the 70's, 80's, those family years and the 90's!
The sun always seemed to shine and when Benny Brown's became a more common place to meet and greet!
We are thinking of all the McCreary's and times past this December!
Gloria, Andrew, Simon and Allan K.

With sympathy to the McCreary family on the death of Maxi.
In 2006 we bought the materials for our new house from Maxi and a few nights before Christmas we were wondering if the store would be open the following day to get a few items to finish a room for Christmas dinner. It was around 11 at night but I decided to ring and see if a message about holiday opening hours was on the phone. I was shocked when Maxi answered, and we had a full discussion about ceiling boards and fixings - as if it was 11 in the day.
He was a decent man and a pleasure to deal with.
