I had many a long summers day at your house as a school kid. I have very fond memories of you and Sonnagh that I will always treasure. Go well friend, and rest now in peace.

Many a laugh I had with Mel.
Mel was a great character, gifted tradesman, and not a bad footballer back in the day. I hope they have plenty of pipe tobacco up there for you Mel

We are very sorry to hear of Mel’s passing. Mel was always a good neighbour, and a gifted tradesman, and was a great friend to my late father, Michael.
With his signature hat, crooked pipe and his turned down Wellingtons ( and a hearty laugh ), Mel was a regular visitor to our house back in the day, and was one of the best storytellers of his time ( adding a length or two depending on the subject) and always had us in stitches laughing.
Several times in our house he used to take a half an hour to cut the “ Mick Mc Quaid “ tobacco, and prep the pipe, light it and take a couple of puffs, put the cap on it and put it in his pocket ! As youngsters we were fascinated watching his antics with the build-up, and puff - it was all over !!
He used to love kicking a football out in the field on a Summer’s evening with our neighbours, the Mc Gauran boys, the late Thomas Farrell and ourselves, and we often played until it got dark. Mel, you were a true character and I’m sure you will have all that have gone before you laughing in Heaven ( same as you did in Sonnagh).
