DCC was shocked and stunned about Mel's passing so soon after we lost Liam.

To Mel's family particularly Marianne and James your loss is our loss. Mel was one of the best people in DCC. Mel was a bit of a know it all but in a good way and in a friendly way, he would help you in any given situation whether it was IT or not. Dealing with Mel sometimes felt like being mugged but by a likeable smiley decent person and you ended up being grateful for being mugged as you got something out of it.

Annalie really hard for you in DCC because its hard for the rest of us, remember those that have your back.

I hope James gets to hear about how great Mel was.

Mel you are missed but remembered.
My condolences to Marianne & James, to Annalie and to all the Woods family. Mel was a lovely person who made lasting impressions on anyone who dealt with him – always good ones. Mel and the Wood family are in my thoughts and prayers. Rest in peace Mel.
I am so sorry to learn news of Mel’s passing. In my memory he will always remain as one of the kindness, funniest and most generous and genuine people I have ever had the good fortune to meet in a work environment. Deepest sympathy to you Marianne and your little son James, and to all the Woods family. Take care of yourselves as best you can at this sad tough time.
Lou Lesovitch - retired DCC

The huge turnout at Mel’s funeral today is testament to the love and respect that everyone had for this lovely man – he really was a legend in DCC Information Systems Department, always with a smile on his face, ready and willing to help out with anything, and usually with a joke or two thrown in for good measure. In more recent times, I was delighted when my son started to work in DCC and Mel was his boss, because I knew that he would show him the ropes and look after him well. His untimely loss is absolutely tragic, he will be missed beyond measure. All our thoughts and prayers are with Marianne, James, and Mel’s Mam, Dad and family to help you all get through the weeks and months ahead.
So saddened to hear of Mel’s passing. Fond memories of his smile and good humour as he went through his day helping colleagues. Condolences to his wife and extended family at this sad time.

Mel was a wonderful man, he was the go to computer person when an IT emergency happened, brilliant work colleague, terrific friend, but he was mostly the best Dad and Husband to James and Marianne .

Rest in peace Mel, look after all of your family from above.
Deepest sympathy to Marianne, James and the Woods and Hickey families on the sudden untimely passing of Mel. Marianne and James, you were the centre of his universe. Such a shock, he will be missed big time. He was a lovely witty brilliant guy, who generously shared his knowledge and was always on hand to help out. Simply the Best.
Rest in Peace Mel.
My sincere and heartfelt condolences to Annalie, Marianne and James, and all the Woods family at this time. I was very shocked and saddened when I heard of Mel’s passing. What an exceptional colleague. A huge loss to the IS department in a wonderful colleague and to the wider DCC community. I can still see him smiling and jovial at work. Not so long ago I knocked an entire cup of tea over my laptop while working at home. My first thought for assistance was Mel is IS (although realistically I knew not even he could fix this one!!!) This condolence book is a testament to a wonderful person taken way too soon. Rest in Peace Mel
Sincere sympathies to Brid and Paddy on the death of your son Mel. To Marianne and James on a husband and father. To Peter and Annalie, a brother.
Keeping you all in our prayers.
May you rest in peace, Mel.
Marianne, my heartfelt condolences to you, James & all the extended family on the untimely passing of Mel. May he rest in peace.
Deepest sympathy to Marianne, James, Paddy, BrId, Annalie, Peter and all of the extended family on the sudden and devastating loss of our dear colleague, Mel. For decades, Mel was a complete legend in the I.S. Department, and indeed throughout DCC, as the go-to-guy of choice, who could always be relied on to find a solution to every IT problem, even when that entailed some unorthodox workarounds or "Mel Specials". He was one of life's natural helpers (despite the obligatory grumbles), funny, kind and generous with his time and talents. He was one of a kind and will be hugely missed by all of us who had the pleasure of knowing him.
I was shocked and saddened to know of Mel's death. Mel was a neighbour and work colleague. He helped me sort IT problems on numerous occasions, and called me 'the aul one'. I was so glad when he got married and had a little son.

I offer our deepest sympathy to Marianne, little James, Brid, Paddy, Annalie and Peter from the O'Donovan family.

I quote from a beautiful hymn written by Mel's mam Brid

"Peace, peace, peace
I wish for you this day
God's love be with you
In all you do and say"

Rest in Peace Mel
