I will forever cherish these lovely, joyful memories and keep them close to my heart. Merja was truly unique: she was the kindest, bravest, most sincere and inspiring person I've known, so intelligent and with endless creativity, curiosity,
sweet fun-loving nature and a brilliant sense of humour. Merja impacted all of our lives and the world in so many amazing ways, and we were so incredibly fortunate to have beautiful Merja in our lives. I was so sorry to just hear the sad news about Merja. Our paths had crossed through the Meath Psychology service. It was a pleasure and joy to spend time in her company and chat over long tea breaks. I always left our meetings the better for it. Merja was so warm and kind and funny. She always spoke so fondly about her family and especially about her two daughters. Thinking of you all at this sad time. May her gentle soul rest in peace.

Meiju <3 (Merja) was my best friend when we grew up. We would do everything together. I have so warm ad beautiful memories of us two. We would write each other long handwritten letters, then call on the phone for hours and meet everyday at school.
After school we would pretend to have a restaurant and make up a funny menu and then serve each other meals that consisted of eg crisp bread, nonpareils and whipped cream etc. We would listen to the Eurovision song contest songs repeatedly. As we were small, we listened to Modern Talking, Clannad, Finnish music and later especially Meiju liked the Doors. We were also big fans of a Swedish pop group Roxette, and 1989 Meiju´s parents took us to their concert in Helsinki. It was a night to remember when you are twelve!

Meiju grew up in the most loving and caring family, her parents would always be hospitable towards me and I have understood that Meiju was the same way as a parent. She had the funniest sense of humor coming from her father and she looked exactly as beautiful as her mother. Meiju was always protective and caring about her baby brother Markus who was very dear to her.

We were probably 12 years old when we went to the local youth center where they arranged a disco. We would be totally overdressed and dance our own funny dance routines, and many people would probably laugh at us. She didn’t care – Meiju never held back her actions thinking what others would think. At a youth music festival Meiju would have a nose piercing and I would make a bungee jump.

As a teenager Meiju got an idea of learning how to play the saxophone – encouraged by her parents, she started lessons and soon she played and performed in front of an audience. She was so artistic and brave, talented in so many ways.

We had this group of four girls, us and Paula and Johku (Johanna). We had sleepovers, we would go the movies, shopping, to the beach, whatever the occasion. We grew up together.

Rianna and Freya, always remember how much your mother loved you and she still does, she will be your guardian angel throughout your lives <3 Your Mom was a beautiful, unique person and her spirit will live on in you two. She will forever be with you <3 in your hearts and minds. My thoughts are with with you <3

Meiju, you were my best friend, and no-one ever came to replace you and never will. You took a part of me with you.

Meiju was my dear, dear friend, so beautiful, intelligent, supportive and attentive, always with a humorous comment to life's obstacles.

I met Merja when I was in the 1st grade as 7 year olds in Finland and we became quickly good friends. Reunited back in the same class in school with 13 years we continued our friendship, we were a great group of four friends together with Jatta and Johku. We had our experiences together growing up as teenagers, supporting each other, doing everything together. Merja was super smart, always the best grades in class and she was so creative and talented in arts.
As 17 year olds in high school we had a great time together with Merja in a summer camp in Sonnenberg Germany.

We kept in touch and Merja visited me in Germany in Frankfurt where I lived and in Finland later on when we moved back there.

Meiju organized a wonderful easter table when we visited her with my family in her home in Ireland in 2017.

Meiju, you were my dear friend and you will be so so deeply missed ❤️

My beloved friend Merja was a truly genuine, caring person, who was always willing to help, listen and be supportive. She was very creative, had a great sense of humour and was talented in so many ways.

"May your moccasins make happy tracks in many snows". A teenage Merja once wrote this Native American blessing to me as a guideline for life. All who had the privilege of knowing her, knew that she left happy tracks on the souls of so many. She will be dearly missed.
