I had the pleasure of knowing Mike while I was a pupil in caherdavin, he was nice, helpful and had a smile and joke for everyone.

Michael was a much-valued member of our school community during his time as caretaker. He took great pride in his work and was always generous with his time, kindness and good humour. Mike was an absolute gentleman. I will always be grateful for him looking out for me as a child in primary school. I am so sorry you all went through such a hard few years. May he rest in the peace he deserves.

Sending our deepest condolences to Kathleen, Fiona and Yvonne on the heartbreaking loss of Mike, a much-loved husband, father and Granda.

We will always treasure the fond memories we shared with Mike. I’ll never forget my first proper sit-down conversation with Mike after Fiona and I told Kathleen and Mike we were getting married. Whilst I couldn’t make much sense from Mike’s Limerick accent, I politely nodded and smiled (I don’t think Mike could understand me either) however I distinctly caught the words “treat it with respect” and assumed I was receiving the traditional father-in-law advice—only to realize, half an hour later, that Mike had been passionately educating me on how to properly respect a pint of Guinness before drinking it. The laughter that followed is something I will always remember. From building walls and planting our beloved Dragon Tree, to proudly etching our initials into fresh cement, many a conversation was around building or painting...or “baaating” a nail with a hammer (Fee does this impersonation so well). Driving with Mike in the passenger seat and approaching an intersection was always met with Mike announcing “clear over this side, Ev” which became a comical phrase Fee and I still use to this day when we approach an intersection. Mike’s little phrases and comical nature are always with us.

Rest in peace, Mike. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love.
