It was such an honour to have known this man who turned out to be my brothers father in law, it was a pleasure to have gotten to know such a kind hearted man who cared so much for all those around him. I was privileged to have known Michael since 1954.

I will always think of him as a person of high principles, integrity, courage, generosity, loyalty and, or course, humour. He loved humour and could find it in the blackest of times. My last talk with him a week ago finished with him humorously telling me about one of his medical problems.

I would like to sympathise with Angela, whose support to him has been immense, and with Michael and John, who have suffered additionally because of the, currently insurmountable, distances from home. I would also like to sympathise with Marian and Stephen who have both been at his side.

I am sure that he is at peace.
