Deepest sympathy to the Kelly family and extended families on the sad passing of Michael may he rest in peace

We were so sorry to hear of Michael's passing and sorry that we heard too late for me to represent my father (Tadhg Quinn) at his funeral.

I remember meeting Michael at Custume Barracks in 2016 where he showed us the shell of a mortar he had kept from the Siege of Jadotville. I have some photos of that day and would be delighted to share them if you would like to send me an email.

Dad passed away last year so I'm sure they're in the mess now, with the other great men who went before them, trading war stories...each one taller than the last.

I was so sorry to hear this sad news. Michael was a colleague of my late father James 'Squad' Hogan, Spike Island and I enjoyed our chats over the phone and when we met at events I attended with Cobh Animation Team. A thorough gentleman who served his country with pride. Rest easy Michael and thank you for your service.

We met Michael at many events and were honoured when he invited us to mark his Civic Reception two years ago for his service to his country. He was an army colleague to many family members of our team who served in the Congo and Spike Island. He was a thorough gentleman who will not be forgotten by us. Rest in peace Michael.

Michael was a remarkable soldier and NCO leader with service in both ONUC ,Congo and UNFICYP, Cyprus. We are proud of Michael’s service in the 4 Infantry Battalion. Indeed Sergeant Michael was honoured by Cork County Council in recognition of his brave actions with A Company, 35 Irish Battalion,ONUC during the Siege of Jadotville in September 1961. On retirement Michael was active in ONE where he benefited from the comradeship of former Defence Forces colleagues. Michael, Rest in Peace. Ar dheis De go raimh a hAnam dilis.
