Sincere sympathy from all at McDermotts Pharmacy, Howth.
So sorry to have learned only recently of Michael's passing. Always enjoyed his wonderful company, whenever we met in St. Pat's. Enjoyed golf outings with him also! A scholar and a gentleman. May he rest in peace.
Deeply saddened to learn of the death of Michael Clarke. Sincere condolences to his family. He was wonderfully supportive of his students at St Pat’s in the days of a fledgling Student Representative Council. More affectionately, I recall with retrospective gratitude his lecture on Musée des Beaux Arts (‘About suffering they were never wrong/The old Masters . .’ ). It was an inspiring introduction to the poetry of Auden that brought more than fifty years of reading pleasure. Slán abhaile, solas na bhflaitheas agus leaba i measc scoláirí na nGael duit, a Mhichíl.
To Florrie and family, my sincere sympathy on Michael's death. As a former student, and colleague for many years, Michael was inspirational as a teacher, and a most perceptive and wise colleague in his counsel to younger members of staff.
I have no doubt that you have treasured memories of Michael, as I certainly have, and these will be important resources and a source of much solace as you come to terms with his absence.

Sincere condolences to the Clarke family on the passing of Michael. A few years ago we met up with Michael and Florry in Lanzarote. On the last night of our holiday. Michael approached me wondering where I was from as he detected a familiar accent. When I said I was originally from Dundalk he wondered if I knew a Paddy Arthur, a relation of his. He was delighted to hear I was Paddy's son. Best night of our holidays was spent chatting with Michael and Florrie and reminiscing about olden times in Dundalk and his father, Decker, visiting our house on the Castletown Road when pigeons were expected home from racing. We met up again the following year and had great chats. Such lovely company. Such a gentleman. I know he will be sorely missed.
