It was an honour to know you Foxy. You brought out the best in everyone and were genuinely one of the kindest, most generous people I have ever met. You always made me smile and laugh (alot!) and you still do whenever I think of you. I will cherish our fond memories and will reminise alot with 'that other one' (Dr Finn). Wishing your dear wife Linda and all your family the very best. I hope you Rest in Peace now, reunited with your beautiful Daisy. xx
My deepest sympathy to all of Foxy's family. He was a wonderful heartwarming man. One of the kindest I ever worked with. He was sorely missed in UCD when he retired .

So sorry to hear about Michael’s passing. I knew him as Foxy in UCD Pharmacology in the 1980s and early 1990s. He was a consummate professional, great company and a fabulous supporter to generations of students. Condolences to Linda and the extended Coffey family at this difficult time.
I'm heartbroken to hear of Foxy's passing. Nothing was more important to Foxy than his family yet he still managed to look after all of us in Merville. In a very real sense, Foxy made pharmacology tick. He was the kindest, warmes, person I have had the privilege to know. Ar dheis Dé go rsibh a anam. Deepest sympathies to Linda and family.

The gentlest of gentlemen. Foxy looked out for me during my 8 years at UCD, often collecting me in the wee hours on his way to work to save me the two buses from Tallaght (occasionally we stopped off for brekkie rolls in Merrion!). When I got my first 'real job' he was with me and my Dad John when I got the call, and he gave me the biggest hug - never forget it.
The world is a much better place cause he was here. Heartfelt comforting wishes to Linda and family. x
Dear Linda and family,
I am truly heartbroken to hear of Foxy’s passing. Foxy was the kindest man and made my 8 years in Merville House a pleasure to come to work each day. He would do anything for everyone and nothing was impossible. I remember his generosity to me and my family on numerous occasions. I remember the devastation when your beautiful daughter passed - I am currently in Australia visiting my first granddaughter who is named Daisy. I’ll always remember Foxy, he was one in a million X
Rest in peace, Michael. You were a true gentleman. Sending thoughts to Linda, Carol, Keith, Brandon, Wills and family. So sorry for your loss.

Dear Linda & family,

Thank you for sharing Foxy with so many of us. Foxy was a key reason Pharmacology rhymed the way it did. Always approachable, warm-hearted, and humorous he made all feel part of the Pharmacology family. Foxy touched so many, all of whom will have fond memories. In remembering and talking about these memories Foxy’s memory will live long. It was an honour to have known Foxy. It’s nearly impossible to think of or talk about Foxy without smiling. I know this will be a dark hour for all of you but hopefully knowing how much he was loved will help you all through this difficult time.

Take care,
Ivan.

PS Coincidentally, I was jogging around UCD last Thursday evening. In the near darkness, as I was passing by Merville, a fox appeared. Somehow, I was reminded of the Ted Hughes poem ‘The Thought Fox’ and the following lines may be a reminder that Foxy’s spirit and light will be near and forever dear to all who were lucky to have know:

“Through the window I see no star:
Something more near
Though deeper within darkness
Is entering the loneliness”
Linda we were so sorry to hear of the passing of Michael. He was a wonderful colleague and friend to our late Daughter Lisa especially during her illness, she always spoke very fondly of Foxy. Our deepest sympathy to you and the family at this very difficult time. You are very much in our thoughts and prayers.
Sincere condolences to Linda and family. Michael was a gentleman in every way. May he RIP.
Deepest condolences to Linda and all the family on Michael’s passing. I knew “Foxy” as a graduate student in the Dept of Pharmacology at UCD. As several people have mentioned, he was the heart and soul of the old Merville House area of campus and a great friend to so many, regardless of their rank. He had a devilish sense of humor too. With me being from Donegal, he immediately started just calling me ‘Daniel’, after a certain singer. At the end of my 4 years he looked at me and said “Daniel, what’s your real name?”. He had genuinely forgotten! We had a good laugh at that, and then he handed me two boxes of pristine high quality bonded paper. “A little something to help with printing your thesis” he said. I’ll always treasure his kindness.
Sincere condolences to the Coffey family on the passing of Michael.

Deepest sympathies to Linda, Carol, Keith, Brandon, Wills and the extended family. My heart goes out to you all during this incredible difficult time.

Michael, such a kind, caring and lovable man. I will never forget how he put himself out for us, when we visited Ireland, nothing was too much trouble. He also visited me in Essex England, via The Netherlands just so my cousin Linda, could give me a hug when I was going through a bad time. He will be missed by so many especially his loving family and his beloved wife Linda, his soul friend.

Michael may you rest in eternal peace. Together again with your beautiful daughter Ann-Marie (your darling Daisy) she will be welcoming you with open arms.

Our sincere sympathies to Linda and Michael's extended family. Michael or Foxy as we knew him in Pharmacology in UCD was a wonderful presence in our lives. He was a tower of strength and always willing and able to help out in any situation. There are such fond memories of all his contributions to Pharmacology UCD down through the years. He never wavered in his good humour and his total commitment to help out no matter what the situation or the difficulty involved.. He was so utterly reliable. I remember playing with him in very keenly contested soccer games against our neighbours Biochemistry in UCD. You knew if you lost the ball up in the forwards, there was no need to worry as Foxy was the centre of the Pharmacology defense and would deal with the situation. We all felt so sad for him when he lost his Ann-Marie (Daisy) in that awful accident. Now, we believe that he will meet up again with Ann-Marie in the next life. Foxy was a truly wonderful character and such a willing and helpful person. He has left a mark on all who knew him and worked with him. He will be sadly missed but has gone to his reward. Michael ( Prof) and Bridie Ryan
Our sincere sympathy to you Brandon, Linda, Carol, Keith & Wills. Thinking of you all at this very difficult time! Michael was a lovely man, a great Dad and support to you all. May he rest in peace.
