My holidays as a kid were spent tearing around with the Cushley boys at a caravan park in Minerstown, our Nana's house in Bangor and the local glens. I remember these days as mostly spent with our mums, but dads would make an appearance later on.

I remember Uncle Michael telling great stories and being very patient with our misadventures.

As a young man, I really enjoyed his open, easygoing nature, his quiet, laconic storytelling style, his great wit, and once I had acquired the taste, his habit of offering then never letting a good glass of whisky run dry.

Pat and Michael helped Laura, and I to have a great honeymoon after our marriage. hosting us in Shannon and giving us a base to explore other places.

We didn't get to go nightclubbing with Michael, but I do remember him jiving with Pat at house parties when i was small.

He was a man ahead of his time in his generosity and kindness through hard times and good, and I admire him tremendously.

We cherish the time we shared and the memories we keep.
