I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to Terry, and to her children and grand-children, on their great loss. Also, to the extended families, on both sides. It was always a joy and pleasure to converse with Micheal, whether in person or on the phone. A world of gratitude is due to him, for the huge effort and time he put into researching and compiling his family genealogy and history (both sides). So sad, to see someone of his calibre and ability, leave this world, but l know that he is in a better place. May he rest in Heavenly peace. Liam Maher, Derrica Beg, Ferbane, Co. Offaly.

My deepest sympathy, Terry, to you, your children and grandchildren on the death of Michael. It was a great privilege for me to visit him three times in your home during the last couple of months of his life, not only as a friend but as a priest. Michael joined our class in Fifth Class in O’Connell Schools in 1954 and we were together right through till Leaving Cert in 1961.

Though I was in the Philippines from 1971 till 2017 I met him at class reunions and, in latter years, on Class of ‘61 outings and lunches. I have happy memories of our long friendship. He was a gentleman and great company. During our chats on the phone during the last two years when he was undergoing treatment and especially during my visits to your home I was deeply touch by his deep Catholic faith and by the great love he had for you, Terry, and for your family. He was totally at peace knowing that his life here on earth was coming to a close. Solas na bhFlaitheas ar a anam uasal – the Light of Heaven on his noble soul.

Michael was such a nice guy and a pleasure to work with. My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this sad time. May Michael Rest in Peace.

To many his friendship a find
To students an inspiring mind
To the waters he fished long
To books and history he belonged
To family tree he built branches
To problems he found answers
To a walker he was a talker
To those in need a friend indeed
To engineering he travelled far
To golf he made the odd par
In recent times he loved his art
To illness he fought long and hard
A smiling face behind a pint
Waiting for Terry to end the night

We pray the Lord has welcomed our Egan Clan Chief, Michael, into His kingdom and will comfort those left behind. In 2013, I had a problem with the Shengen Agreement while visiting distant cousins in Germany. I emailed Michael, and told him that although I didn’t know where my great-great grandfather came from, in Ireland, I would like to visit. Michael dropped everything to help and invited me to Eire. He took me around Dublin and recommended sites at New Grange, Fuerty, Clonmacnoise, the Egan “castle”, etc. The same tears of appreciation I felt at Fuerty are with me now as I grieve the loss of this great man. God bless!
— Glenn Stephens, Hershey, Pennsylvania
