Michael Falvey

My sincere condolences to the Falvey family upon the death of Michael, he was a true gentleman and a scholar particularly when tracing roots of anyone west of Ennis and south of the Kilmaley to Miltown Malbay road. I have many fond memories of chats and tracing roots 'n' relatives with Michael. May God Rest His Soul.

On behalf of Clare Roots Society, I would like to express our sincere sympathies to Michael's family on his passing. Michael was one of the founding members of the Society and his generosity and local knowledge were well-known in genealogy circles throughout County Clare and beyond. May he rest in peace.

Michael! We hope they celebrate birthdays in Heaven because today would have been your 98th. We missed sending you that annual greeting.

We had heard of you long before we met at the inaugural meeting of The Clare Roots Society. We became instant friends.
As your family home had been the home of my ancestor, The Coroner O'Donnell you set me right on the various O'Donnell families. Then to add to that Paddy's Grandma Melican was your close relative. We learned so much from you and were so lucky to have known you.
You have been missed from Clare Roots Society but we know you always had callers so people kept in touch.
It was so poignant to see so many of your old friends (and neighbours) and founder members of Clare Roots Society at your guard of honour. You will never be forgotten.

I knew him through my friends in the Clare Roots Society. Michael was a great one for a chat, though you needed your wits about you to keep up with him - it might look like he'd gone off the story, but he's always come back, with his encyclopedic knowledge. “When an old man dies, a library burns”. This was certainly true with the death on 21st March, 2022, at 12.30 a.m., of Michael Falvey. Born on the 3rd April, 1924,

A keen genealogist and founder member of Clare Roots Society, Michael had an exceptional brain for tracing families from Kilmaley to Kilmihil and back to Kilkee.
Michael also had a great love for cinema – he loved the history attached to different films and actors. In particular, he regularly recalled the story line attached to Lost Horizon (1937 film), returning to Shangri-La.
Michael finally closed his eyes and set off on his journey to Shangri-La on March 21st, 2022.
Our sincere sympathy to his son Peter, daughters Mary (Casey), Bridget (Mellon), and Helen (Ebenezer), grandchildren, daughter-in-law, sons-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Michael was pre-deceased by his wife Lena (2011) brother Tommy (2022), grandaughter Roisin, son-in-law Benny.
