Sincere condolences on the passing of Michael, Beatrice. He was a gentleman, and a good friend throughout the years. May he rest in peace.

It is hard to believe that Michael has bade farewell to us all. The news of his passing took me by surprise as he had phoned me around weeks earlier from Mountbellew. Michael was a loyal listener to my shows on Midwest radio for many years. He would often ring asking for a little mention for the North Galway Pioneer socials and other events. Since moving from Lavally to Mountbellew Nursing Home, I was always struck by the huge appreciation he had for the staff there. He included them in EVERY request and spoke glowingly of their kindness and care to him. Michael loved music, especially country music and traditional Irish music. His favourite song over the last two years was When The Robbins Come Home by Paudie McAuliffe from Kerry which I pioneered on Midwest Radio and which went on to become one of the most requested numbers on the station. One thing I was not aware of until I heard Michael John Lee's lovely tribute to him at the Funeral Mass was his love of travel and that he had been to so many countries over the years. Michael enjoyed the simple things in life and was truly one of the grand 'old stock' of the West. I extend condolences to his sister Beatrice and all the relations and friends at this sad time.
