My deceased husband was a friend and classmate of Michael's . EOIN thought the world of Michael as a friend , person , and intellectual . I met Michael on a few occasions in New Ross . He was just such a nice person - friendly , warm and humorous. He always spoke highly of Grainne , Rosemarie , and the boys- he was so proud of u all . May Michael rest in peace . I'm sure he is reminiscing with Eoin about childhood and school days in New Ross !. Sincere sympathy to you all .
Our heartfelt condolences go to all the family especially Grainne, Mike, Fergal and Rowan.
It has been an absolute privilege to have known Michael, granddad to my niece and nephew. An incredibly talented and most of all inspirational man. A wonderful legacy for the young members of the family. You all must be extremely proud.
With all our love and best wishes, Trace, Chris, Samantha, Richard, Tyron and Kaylee

Saddened to hear what a man he was condolence to family
I am so dreadfully sorry to hear about Michael. Deepest sympathy to Grainne and all the family. I went to school at New Ross CBS where Michael was 1 year ahead of me. It was widely thought that he was the schools best ever student. Always fantastic Exam results. I regularly got to read his English essays. I remember the amazing way he could put words together. I am privileged to have known Michael. He has given all of us great memories. May his gentle soul R.I.P.
Saddened to hear of Michael's passing.
We have great memories of happy times in Glenageary.
I am sure Michael and Dad are somewhere lively surrounded by pipe smoke.
Much love to Grainne, Rowan,Michael, Fergal and family.

My deepest condolences to the Casey family on this sad occasion. I first encountered Mike when I joined the CBI in 1985 and have interacted with him in various contexts since then. For me he was a kind and insightful manager and, in many ways, a “role model”. He combined economic expertise with deep wisdom, practical common sense, and a fantastic sense of humour. He had a large repertoire of interesting stories about events and people he encountered over the course of his life, a good starting point for his subsequent life as a writer. He was a true raconteur, and it was always a pleasure to be in his company. He was greatly liked (if not loved) by his colleagues. May he rest in peace.
Saddened to hear of Mikes death. We were colleagues in the Central Bank for many years concluding with adjoining offices from which we shared so many discussions at the management board where he never failed to make challenging but positive contributions.
I’m very sorry to hear of Mike’s death. When I first worked at the Central Bank in the 1970s Mike was already a senior figure, but he was always someone who brought a smile to everyone’s face when they met him. Affable, cultured, humorous. He contributed immensely.
My dearest father-in-law, you were always so kind to me. You and Grainne welcomed me into your home when I was finishing my PhD, and I deeply cherished our daily teatimes and the stories you shared about your work at the bank, your travel around the world, and your latest poems and novels. We spent many Sunday nights after dinner playing scrabble trying to beat Fergal while watching Alien or Terminator in the lounge. I always deeply admired your work ethic especially your dedication to writing and painting after your retired. I always try to find the joy in my work because it’s what you said kept you going. Your warmth, patience, and genuine interest in my children meant so much — you always listened to them with such care, and now we hold those memories close.
Grainne, please accept my heartfelt condolences. I witnessed the tender and devoted care you gave Michael, and my thoughts are with you during this time. Fergal, Rowan and Michael, I am so sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss
You were the most humble and noble man I've ever known. Your strength, kindness and quiet dignity left a mark on everyone who had the honor of knowing you. You will be missed deeply, but never forgotten my KING....
Sincere sympathy to Gráinne and family, Rosemary and the extended Casey family, on the sad passing of Michael. While many classes ahead of me at New Ross C.B.S., we were aware that he was a student of high intellect destined for future success and achievement. The Christian Brothers were never slow to highlight those in more senior classes whom they perceived as providing necessary inspiration for us to greater effort in our academic pursuits. Go dtuga Dia suaimhneas síoraí dá anam uasal.
So sad that Michael has gone. He was a gentle, quiet spoken soul, so charming and welcoming when you’d meet him on the street.
I remember him from college days, as he was only one year ahead of me, and when his mother moved into this area, but had lost touch in the last few years.
It is a heartbreaking loss for his family, and they have my very sincere sympathy.
May he rest in peace.

Rosemary my sincere sympathy to you on losing your brother Michael. I’m sure you will miss him greatly
My deepest sympathy to you Grainne and to the Casey family. Michael was a good friend to me since our undergraduate days in UCD and an inspiring colleague in the Central Bank. I shall miss him.
I was extremely sorry to hear that Mike had passed away and send my deepest sympathy. As chief economist, Mike made a significant contribution to economic analysis in the Central Bank and, after retirement, to the CB economists' lunches. He also had a literary side. I really enjoyed his play, Joyce's Wake, at the Mill Theatre some years ago.
May he rest in peace.

Deepest sympathy to the Casey family on the loss of Mike. We worked together for many years at the Central Bank. He was always very supportive of his colleagues and great company. He will be fondly remembered.

Mike, as we referred to him in my time in the Central Bank, was a man of great personal warmth and understanding, had a great sense of humour, was an astute economist and a beacon of integrity. Although I have not met him in several decades I feel a deep sense of personal loss. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dhílis.
Saddened to learn of Mike’s death. He was a great colleague and a very courteous gentleman. We extend our condolences to Mike’s family - May he Rest in Peace.
Sincere Condolences to all the family on the death of Michael a friend from long ago in New Ross.

Sincerest sympathy and love to Grainne and her three boys, Fergal, Rowan and Mike, on the death of our dear cousin. We have many wonderful memories of childhood holidays spent with Michael and his sister Rosemary in Tramore long ago.
My heart goes out to you all at this sad time. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

My sincerest condolences to Michael’s family and his dear sister Rosemary at this sad time .
I had the pleasure of meeting Michael, on a number of occasions, when Rosemary returned to Ireland from Quebec. He loved those visits.
I remember him as softly spoken with the soul of an artist. The last time we spoke was after a production of his original play, Joyce’s Wake, in The Mill Theatre, Dundrum. He was full of enthusiasm about the cast and mentioned other projects he was working on ,at the time. I have no doubt he accomplished them all!
May his gentle soul rest in eternal peace .

My deepest condolences to Micheal’s family and friends. Although I’ve never met him, I felt I’ve know him for many years since his beloved sister Rosemary made me appreciate the man and the artist that he was. My thoughts are with you.
So much sadness on hearing of Micheal's death. I first met him at a poetry masterclass given by Derek Mahon at the Irish Writers Centre in the early 2000s. We became firm friends, often meeting for lunch and convivial conversation. We were competitive in a good way, and both won many prizes for our writing, and were members of the Stephen's Green Writers Workshop for many years. My condolences to his family.
I'll miss you Michael.

Michael was an inspirational economist in my time in the Central Bank. He was technically
outstanding, always original and a beautifully lucid writer.
More important, he was the most affable of men. He must be a grievous loss to his family. God bless him, and comfort them in their memories.

It was with great sadness that I heard of the passing of Michael. He was an old school friend in the CBS New Ross.He was a brilliant student and it was no surprise he became so successful in later life.
I was very humbled when he came to my home to visit me during my serious illness. We chatted about the fun times we had with the skiffle group and also the times we played handball together.
I would like to offer my sincerest condolence to the Casey Family on their great loss and also a great loss to the country

Sincere sympathy to the Casey family on Michael's passing. I knew him from my own time in the Central Bank. He was a very intelligent and kind gentleman with a warm sense of humour. May he rest in peace.
Of all the truly incredible achievements throughout his life, his proudest and most remarkable title was undoubtedly "Grandad".
We became such good friends over the past three decades and you will always hold such a dear place in my heart. I will miss chatting to you for hours about any and everything from the ridiculous to the sublime. Your advice has helped guide me through some difficult times and we have laughed long and hard.
My deepest condolences to Grandma who has never left his side, Rosemary on the loss of her big brother and to Mike, Rowan and Fergal who have lost the most precious Da'.
I will miss you terribly but am so grateful that you were a part of my children's lives (Saoirse and Cian). They have the best memories which is the most precious gift.
Rest in peace Grandad - my good pal and one who never turned down a cup of tea!
Love Robyn

To the Casey family, I was deeply saddened to hear of Mike’s death, or as he was affectionately known in the Bank as “Dr Casey”. When I joined the Bank in the late 1980s, we had the most informative and educational coffee breaks and Dr Casey held court, with others, on economics, finance, banking, law, politics, films, books, theatre, etc. As a young economist, I learnt so much more about the economy, banking, law and finance by attending the coffee breaks than in college. Dr Casey was truly one of a kind — very learned, discerning, insightful and quick-witted. His great sense of humour and gift for relaying information left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to learn from him, know and work with him. He was a raconteur like no other!
I hope you find comfort and consolation in the many wonderful memories he has left with us all. He will be greatly missed and very fondly remembered.
May he rest in peace.

With heartfelt sympathy,
Michael was a real nice school friend of mine who I sat with during my Leaving Cert years years at CBS in New Ross and was simply known to his class mates as Casey who secretly smoked his pipe at 17yrs, a real brainbox who refused to partake in school hurling. May Michael rest in peace.
Sincere sympathy to you Rowan & to all your family on the death of your Dad.
May he rest in Peace.

Deepest sympathy to the Casey family on Michael's passing. I worked closely with Michael in the Central Bank for many years. He was a wonderful colleague, very erudite and willing to challenge conventional wisdom. May he rest in peace
Sincere sympathy to the Casey family on the sad passing of Michael. A high achiever in school and in the financial world.
A classmate of mine in C.B,S New Ross, Michael was extremely clever but also very modest.I am sure he will enhance the skies.

Sincere sympathy to Grainne, Rowan our dear son-in-law, Mike, Fergal and Michael's three daughters-in-law, and his adored grandchildren. We will miss you so much, you were a delight to know. May your beautiful soul rest in peace, richly deserved.
Sincere sympathy to Grainne, Rowan, Michael,Fergal and especially Rosemary on Michael's death. A longterm friend, his mother went to school with my mother. Michael was probably the best academic student produced by New Ross CBS in it's 160 year history. He wore his genius lightly, from playing double bass in Ted Cleary's skiffle group to winning a doctorate in Bonn? University. He was also popular with the girls in New Ross . He will be sadly missed. May his soul rest in peace.
Sincere condolences to cousin Gràinne and family. Michael will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
May Michael’s gentle soul rest in eternal peace.

Deepest sympathy to Gráinne and to Rowan, Mike and Fergal, his sister Rosemary and daughters-in-law and beloved grandchildren. He was a much loved and much admired cousin and he will be missed. With love, Madeleine (née Dunphy) and family
I am so very sorry to hear of dear Michael's passing. I first met him at the IMF and have such good memories of him. After my husband's untimely death, John Copeland (Central Bank of Ireland), he wrote a beautiful, tender letter to our family that I still have and treasure. My deepest heartfelt condolences go to his family.
I am so very sad to hear of my cousin Michael's death. My heart goes out to his family - Gráinne, Rowan, Mike and Fergal; their partners and grandchildren, and to my dear cousin Rosemary - Michael's sister. What a lovely, quiet, but such a funny man he was. What laughs we had over the years. You will be greatly missed, Michael. Rest in Peace now.
The kindest and warmest father in law to me and most wonderful grandfather to Isabella. We are so thankful for all the wonderful times we spent with you over the years and will miss you so much.
My dearest brother Michael, always in the forefront of my life. The absence of your impressive and dignified presence will be missed beyond measure and your inimitable sense of humour even moreso. My multiple blessings go with you as was your last wish to me. You leave behind so many family members, cousins and friends who will mourn for your loss.
