Although I never met Michael, his personality and energy exude from the wonderful notice that you have placed on RIP about him and also the lovely messages from friends upon whose lives he clearly left his imprint. Deepest sympathies from all the Winders.
Michael was a constant in my childhood and formed part of my very early memories. He was the best man at my Father’s (Prof. Frank Winder) wedding and they remained close friends until Dad’s passing in 2007. I am so glad Dad had him as a friend.
He was always a very welcome guest in our home and I know our mother Jeanne RIP thought exceptionally well of him too. I was very touched to see Michael at mum’s funeral in February of this year, it must have been quite an effort for him. It will not be forgotten.
Sincere apologies I cannot be at the service today. I am sure it will be a fitting homage to a wonderful man. Kind Regards Nessa Winder
Sincere sympathies, Marianne and family, on Michael's death. I have fond memories of Michael whom I met after he retired and became a member of the Board of Directors of Age & Opportunity. I was enormously appreciative of Michael's support for me in my role of CE and I know that other staff members also valued his kindness. Michael's creativity, enthusiasm and wide ranging knowledge and interests allowed him to make numerous valuable contributions to corporate policy and to the day-to-day work of the organisation. May he rest in peace.
Deepest sympathy to Marianne and family on the death of Michael, we are so sorry for your loss. May he rest in peace from Kathleen, Kerry and all at Go West Galway

Deepest sympathy to Marianne and family on the sad passing of Michael. He was one of a small group of visionary Bord Failte Eireann managers who, from the late 1950s on, set the standards and charted the evolution of Irish tourism development and promotion..In all of his many management roles I suspect his greatest fulfilment came with the success of "Ireland of the Welcomes" magazine of which he was Editor for many years. IOW reached up to 90,000 international subscribers bi-monthly, presenting our tourism attractions in the contexts not simply of scenery but of culture, traditions, arts, crafts, music, history, archaeology, food, people and more-, often told through the eyes of some of Ireland’s greatest writers. Michael served his industry and country well, may he rest in peace.
Sincere condolences to you Michael John and all of your family on your Dad’s passing.
