I was so very sorry to hear of Michael’s passing. My sincere condolences to all of the O’Reilly family. I have so many memories of Michael over several decades. Late nights in the bar, long walks across the three beaches and endless wide-ranging conversations on the topic of the day - be it music, sport, literature, philosophy, politics but mostly about Ardmore and Michael’s fierce pride in retaining its heritage. I will really miss him in Ardmore.

Heartfelt condolences to the O’Reilly family. Michael was a remarkable man and host at O’Reilly’s bar which was like a speakeasy, folk club and literary salon all rolled into one. He was also a person of great kindness, especially towards children and senior citizens for whom, I recall, he opened up house especially at their convenience. He will be much missed - a fabulous conversationalist, as fluent talking about sport as about science, literature and politics. R.I.P.

Some lasting memories of the great nights with the Fiddling farmers in the past in his unique Tigh Bheag for which one would only love to see those nights resurrected in all of their memories as Ardmore has the local talent for such nights rather than having all scripted into books by historians.

It took seven trips to Ireland and cumulatively, about six weeks in Ardmore, before we met Micheál. He was holding court in Breda's gallery and tea room, and welcomed us to his table and into his conversation. Another day, another stop-in for tea, and he greeted us like old friends. My great-grandmother’s home of Ardmore is the home of my heart, and I certainly sensed that Micheál was a part of the spirit of the place. May all who knew him be comforted that he must surely be holding court in heaven.

We went back a long time Michael shared many an experience thriugh thick and thin I wilk miss you

Michael continued the tradition of his late parents as an unrepentant Republican in supporting and attending the various commemorations around the country and thus ensuring that all those who fought in all generations in Ireland’s struggle for a unified 32 county Ireland would not be forgotten whilst he unashamedly publicly displayed images supporting this cause on these prominent front windows of his home in his native Ardmore.

Mass was offered here in Ballyphehane Cork for the happy repose of Michael's soul. The Gospel proclaimed at Michael's funeral service in Ardmore today was truly appropriate. Blessed are the gentle, the pure of heart and those who show mercy. Michael received the Sacraments in that sacred and Holy Church of Saint Declan's. May he receive a just reward for a life well lived.
