David and Christine,
So so sorry to hear about the loss of Michael. A total gent and didn't we have great chats at your balcony having his cigar in Kilgobbin each day when I was walking Panda and Rossi. He very much reminded me of my own father dad, of a gentlemanly era which is a great loss. RIP Michael.

Uncle Michael, you were a true gentleman. Kind, wise, and gentle. I remember your little ‘sleight of hand’ magic tricks where you plucked an invisible penny from behind my ear, I was fascinated by that for years as a young child. You had that really cool pool table in the attic, I thought that was the coolest thing ever. I remember those nice smelling little cigars you used to smoke. Marie was my dad’s sister, the 2 of you were such a beautiful couple, and now you’re both reunited. Love Paul.
When I first came to the OPW with my fellow classmates, Michael was there to show us the ropes in a very friendly, informative and positive way. He was the main brains behind the RAX Rural Auitomatic Telephone Exchange building programme for the smaller telephone exchanges throughout Ireland, something I feel, for which he was never given enough credit.
His very presence in the office produced an aura of kindly effective wisdom that everyone recognised. He and Marie were the ideal office couple. A thorough gentleman. He will be sadly missed, but the positive effect he had on all who knew him, will endure forever.

Very sorry to hear of Michael's death. Served many a year with him in the OPW. Every time I see an RAX around the country, I think of him. He also organised many a mountain walk for us with the help of the late J B Malone when J B worked on the Dept of P&T and was Michael was his opposite number in the OPW.

A great Uncle! I have so many lovely memories of Michael.
When I was 12, he gave me my first watch for Christmas. That was a big present! He said that as he had not given me a Christmas present up till then, and as my Godfather, he wanted to make up for it. I was thrilled and can still remember the pure joy of putting it on my wrist while sitting on the stairs in Beechwood Avenue!
When we young and I would hear his car arriving in Annaville House, I would rush to meet him, knowing he would unfailingly have a packet of sweets for me.
As a child, he was also the only person I knew that had a camera - which added to my fascination for him. And I have no doubt that all the photos we have when we were young were taken by Michael.
I have another vivid memory of him arriving in Annaville House with the cutest caravan and being allowed to explore it in detail while the adults chatted outside.
As I got older, I loved sitting beside him at coffee mornings to hear about his exciting adventurous travels when he was young - I imagined him as this dashing handsome man traveling the world. He also always had time to listen attentively and show interest in my own travels.
