So sorry to hear the sad news. My sincere sympathy to the Hopkins family on the passing of Michael. I attended the Vocational school, from 1959 to 1961 - he was the woodwork and mechanical drawing teacher.
Those skills were very beneficial to me over the years.
He was a most inspirational teacher, and imparted his professional knowledge, with ease. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

Great memories of a great man. Always looked forward to going to class in the woodwork room in the Vocational school Lanesboro St. Roscommon 1965 to 1968 . It would be woodwork or mechanical drawing both of which I loved probably because of his skill as a teacher dealing with 12 and 13 year old lads still " wet behind the ears". Put them in the vice and squeeze them was a common comment with a little smile. Those two and a half years were happy days. Reading earlier condolences I'm not alone thinking

Sorry to hear of Michael's passing. I remember in the Vocational School at woodwork . This saying always remained with me "Put your set square sitting on your T square". I visited Michael in Oakwood some weeks ago and had a nice chat. May I express my sympathy to all the family ! RIP Michael.

It is with sadness that I learned of the death of Michael and condolences to all his family. I first met Michael when he would always stop and give me a lift from Cooligue cross when I was attending secondary school long before free school transport. Years later it was always a pleasure to meet him socially in Roscommon or at TUI events nationally.Always a perfect gentleman and great company.

I was saddened to hear of Michael's passing. I was a regular visitor all over the years and also when Michael went to Oakwood Nursing Home. I visited Michael every two weeks and was in his usual good form. Michael was a true friend and gentleman. My sympathy to his sister in law Patricia, nieces, and nephews. May Michael rest in peace.
