Dear Mary, Louise, David, Maeve & Conor . It is with much sadness I heard only yesterday of Michael’s passing . My sincere sympathies to you at this sad time. Growing up next door to the O”Briens was lovely. Lucky us with ye as our neighbours. I met Michael recently in Douglas with you Mary and he was calm & sincere. That’s how I remember him from my childhood always smiling . A true gentleman. I know he will be greatly missed by you all . Rest in Peace Mr.O’Brien .

To Mary and all in Michael’s immediate and extended family - I had the privilege of being on his team for three separate periods during the 1980s and 90s. By team, I mean the one involving work; he never had to endure me during my very, very short golf career. The beautiful photograph captures the personality of the man we knew at work, who succeeded in combining a hint of mischief, common sense combined with firmness when required, and compassion when dealing with those who may not have been at their best on occasion.
As I write this message, I can hear the toll of the Angelus Bell in the kitchen. May such signs bring comfort to you all and reward to Michael for his kindness.

Conor & Family; I am so sorry for your loss.I have many, many memories of being in your house as a kid and Mr. O'Brien (as he was to me) would always pop his head into whatever room we had taken over with a genuine interest in what we were up to that day. Such a kind person with a large heart & large presence. He was a gem of a man and will forever be in our hearts and minds.

Mary, I am saddened to learn that Michael has died. He and I met first when we spent the Fifties together in school and, afterwards, in the Seventies, when you and Michael, and Anne and I were neighbours in Kensington. I remember particularly that Michael attended my Mother's Mass in 1999. He was one of the good guys. Rest in Peace Mick.

I was very sorry to hear of Mr. O’Briens passing. Growing up in Kensington Mr. O’Brien was always a very kind and friendly person who always had a friendly hello when you met him, always asked how you were getting on. He had a genuine interest in people. I remember how kind he was to my family when my Dad passed earlier this year, it meant a lot to us.
