Condolences to Annie, Una and family on the sad passing of Michael John. Shocking he has passed so quickly. It is only 6 months ago; this week; that he helped us carry our father Kevin Mc Grath into the church for his funeral mass. Different as chalk and cheese but lifelong close friends; since Michael John’s parents; Cecelia and Pat; took Kevin in when he was 18 months old following the death of Kevins mother and Cecelia’s sister Mary. Michael John:was a dedicated neighbour, trusted friend to so many, the Brain of Connacht, historian, pioneer, relentless community worker, founder of the group water scheme, GAA fan, committed Catholic and without doubt the most widely read person any of us will ever meet. May he Rest In Peace now with his beloved wife Molly.

My deepest to Michael John`s relatives and friends.He was a man of immense knowledge and I have fond memories of titanic quiz contests in Creeve Community Centre down through the years where he competed with the best quiz brains in Ireland.He was a dedicated community activist and will be sadly missed.He now joins his beloved late wife Molly with the Saints in Heaven.RIP

It was with deep sadness I learned of Michael John's sad death. I used to love to see him coming into the barbershop, with his mild and gentle demeanour bringing a sense of serenity to the room. His amazing knowledge of current affairs at home & around the world was hugely enlightening. We had many great chats about the Middle East. He had such a lovely simple way of explaining his point of view. He will be sadly missed by his family, neighbours and many friends. It was a privilege and an honour to know one of Ireland's greatest gentlemen. May God have mercy on his gentle soul, your memory will live forever Michael John
