I worked with Michael 25 yeare ago. We've met infrequently since but he was always a pleasure to be with, a great personality and a lovely man. Had planned a much looked forward to meet up with him this year, now sadly not to be. My deepest sympathy to all of his family.

I have just heard of the loss of Michael and I want to convey my deepest sympathy to Pauline and to your children Annie and Gerry, who should know that Mikey will be remembered for his genius and his great sense of humour when we were in NIHE and clearly that carried through in his life from then. Very sad news . Myself and Mike spent many a happy time as teenagers in Ennis . I had my first pint of Guinness with Mike and he had all the others . RIP Mike from all the Rees’s and all the NIHE Business and European students back in the 80’s .

My deepest condolences and sympathies to the O'Brien family on Mike's passing, I had the good fortune and great privilege to work with Mike at JPMorgan and he left an impression and set a standard which goes way beyond a work setting, his humanity and humility were always to the forefront (not to mention his sense of humour and good nature), which meant he often underplayed his own extraordinary abilities and talent. I recall many great times in his company, be it London or New York, but the thing which always stood out was his love for his family and life in general, no matter how difficult work may have been, I always felt happier after being in his presence. I am deeply saddened by Mike's passing, but moreso the loss to his family and close friends, as i can only imagine the sense of loss you are feeling. Mike is someone who to this day and beyond i will always think of as someone who enriched the environment he inhabited and directly and indirectly influenced and impacted many people's lives in a positive fashion. It has been so sad to hear about the passing of Mike so suddenly.
I have know Mike since we studied Applied Maths at UL together, Mike led the class from the beginning and inspired us to follow him.
Stayed with him many times when he moved to London and had some great conversations particularly about Rugby.
I last had a conversation with him 2 months ago and discussed about meeting up next year in the UK.

I was a classmate of Mike's at UL Applied Maths, we traded code and maths together. He was effortlessly brilliant and no surprise he went on to achieve so much. I’m heartbroken to hear he’s gone. Thinking of his family and everyone who loved him.

So sad to hear of Mike's passing. All too young. Knew Mike and Pauline from UL. Mike was full of energy and positivity, friendly with everybody, great company, great intellect. Sincere sympathies to Pauline and family.
