I grew up right beside Michael's home house and even though he'd left for Dublin before I was born, I had frequent and lovely interactions with his mother, Mary. She was a gentle soul and a lady and that same spirit shone through Michael. He was and will continue to be an eternal source of pride for our community.

I was really sad and taken by surprise when I heard of Michael's passing. He was one of the good guys you meet along the way. Great company, full of energy and funny stories, an excellent broadcaster which he did with such ease. So many great memories! My sincere sympathy Anne and to all your family.

Michael's talent shone brightly from all of our TVs from as early as I remember watching sport on RTÉ and he was always claimed 'locally' as 'one of our own!' Especially those of us working in his alma mater! The people of Barnaderg, Tuam and surrounds were very proud of Michael's achievements and the excellent service he provided for us and people nationwide in his dedication to sport in the national media. This is a very difficult and sad time for the Lyster family and a life-changing event for you all. Will be keeping you all in my prayers.
