My sincere condolences to Jackie and the MacCarthy family on very sad news of Michael's passing.

His talent and output as a Director was tremendous and exhilarating to those of us who worked with him in the Everyman Playhouse, Father Mathew Street back in the 1980's. Michael took us on incredible epic journeys with productions of the Conquistador expedition to South America in "Royal Hunt of the Sun" and the extraordinary New York docklands in Arthur Millers "A View from the Bridge".
We lived through the impassioned story of Helen Keller with his beautiful staging of "The Miracle Worker". The highly acclaimed "The Homecoming", with a brilliant cast, was one of Michael's finest productions.

Michael was always a big supporter of new talent. He, along with others, established Everyman Theatre Extras that enabled a young generation of new actors, directors and stage technicans to develop their skills and talents.

Michael was my mentor and my friend. I will always remember his kindness, his laughter, his songs and his many wonderful Shakespeare soliloquies that were a feature in the many after show parties.

May he rest in peace.
Deepest sympathy to Jackie, Michael's sisters and brothers on your sad loss. Michael was a pure genleman, and a pleasure to know and work with in Henkel. May he rest in peace.

I was 7 or 8 years old when I met Mick. He would frequently remind me of our first encounter, where I was a greeter at the door of my parents house during a party. He said Eric you look sharp in that blazer and tie. From that day forward aside from my Dad he was a father figure, larger than life to me. We did many things together, sailing, theatre, parties dinners etc. I even watched him play rugby. Most recently I went to a history lecture with him. I loved him like he was family. I am so sad now. To Jackie and to Micks family, my heart is broken as I know you all are. I mourn with you at this time of grief. My heart felt condolances. May he rest in peace.

Jackie - and Mick's family - I'm very sad to hear of Mick's passing. He was a great help to me starting out as an actor. It was an unforgettable and enriching roller coaster experience to be directed by him. He was a true legend. I will miss the conversations we had when we bumped into each other - usually as Gaeilge - and most of all I will miss his huge smile and great warmth.

Dear Jackie and the MacCarthy family,

Mick Mac, as he will always be to me, was a gentleman and a friend, and, in our many forays together in Everyman Theatre, an outstanding actor-colleague and a perceptive director. For energy, passion and a relentless pursuit of perfection, he had no equal in the Cork Theatre of the late sixties and early seventies.

Sleep easy, sweet 'Aston', sweet 'Rosencrantz', and all the other theatrical creations into whom you breathed beauty, meaning, and pure 'divilment' in equal measure.

Gura i mbaclainn na sinsear a luíonn tú anocht, a chara.
