I went to school with Michael in Fethard. He was a bright lad. I remember being jealous of him because he took on Honours Maths for the Leaving.
Enjoyed and occasionally - very occasionally! - profited from our poker games at their house in Patrick’s place. All part of what made us.
Wished I had kept in contact …

Sincere sympathy to all of Michael's family on his sad and sudden passing. I remember Michael from all those years ago before he left his hometown of Fethard in Tipperary. He never forgot his roots and he had great knowledge of Fethard football teams from past years, and of course, Tipperary hurling teams and players. Rest in peace Michael.

My deepest condolences and sympathy to you Margaret and all Michael's family on the untimely death of a wonderful man. I am sure I can speak for all the Committee here as many knew Michael well and are deeply saddened at his loss.

I never got the pleasure of getting to know Michael as I only took over my current position as Covid struck. He has done so much for Active Retirement and I am grateful to him as I metaphorically 'stand on his shoulders 'enjoying the fruits of all his good work over the years for ARI. He will never be forgotten.

On the only occasion I did meet him he kept us all laughing and his beaming smile was infectious. I can't begin to imagine how much you all miss him.

So sorry for your great loss at this difficult time. I had the pleasure of meeting Michael at a Tea Dance in Newcastle some years ago. The fact that I was from Thurles and he was from Fethard gave us plenty to talk about. After chatting for some time it turned out that he had worked for my brother in Thurles in his supermarket. I met him many times after that singing with the Rams. I was visiting a lady from Thurles who was in a nursing home in Newcastle & she said that there was music there today. We both went out to where the music was and who was playing only the Rams. We went straight up to the band and of course got a great welcome. I was delighted to see him and all the other members of the band. I will see you soon Margaret. So sorry for your sudden loss. Wonderful memories of Michael.

2 years ago Michael Maher was at my Election Launch He was always a great support to me and he was a kind man and I will always be gratefull for his support - He have so much of himself to others as Chair of the community centre in Newcastle, the ReNewcastle Community Group , Singer in the RAMs , Newcastle Tidy Towns and his many years on Active Retirement Ireland - He was a huge asset to his community - Rest in Peace my Friend!
